News: Postcode Googling

The BBC News website currently has an article called “Web reveals hidden lives“. Basically, you throw your postcode into a search engine such as Google and you can find out what your neighbours get up to. Well, that’s the theory. I threw in my postcode, and promptly got my details back (and two links to maps). Hmm… I then used the Royal Mail Postcode Finder to find other postcodes that cover my street…

The postcodes covering my street are as follows:

  • LE4 2DP
  • LE4 2DQ
  • LE4 2DR
  • LE4 2DS
  • LE4 2DT
  • LE4 2GS
  • LE4 2GT
  • LE4 2GU
  • LE4 2GW
  • LE4 2GX

That’s 10 postcodes covering 122 addresses (just over 12 buildings per postcode). In comparison, my parents road has 3 postcodes cover 93 addresses (over 30 buildings per postcode). You work out the allocation system there 🙂
OR

According to Google’s results (page one, page two), there’s “St.Luke’s Vicarage” church, “Lansdowne Rd Ltd” carehome, Splitters Sub Ska Rockers (band) and Beebware. All of which I already knew about. Hardly the “hidden secrets” the BBC makes out…
