Books: Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

[Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix]This entry has been superseded by: Books: Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix II: please reference that page instead

As you may have heard by now, it has been announced the book 5 of the Harry Potter series – “Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix” will be publicly available from the 21st of June (in the UK, Canada and the USA).

You can pre-order a copy now though – Amazon has the children’s edition AND the Adults edition available at half price – just £8.50 each. Obviously you’ve got to wait until June to actually get your copy, but over 60,000 copies already have been ordered it could be a case of demand outstripping supply: so order now!

What can I tell you about the book without falling foul of anything that I may or may not have signed? Well, on the first page of the 768 tome it starts : “The hottest day of the summer so far was drawing to a close and a drowsy silence lay over the large, square houses of Privet Drive. The only person left outside was a teenage boy who was lying flat on his back in a flowerbed outside number four.”.

A later quote which has been widely circulated in the media goes: “Dumbledore lowered his hands and surveyed Harry through his half-moon glasses. ‘It is time,’ he said, ‘for me to tell you what I should have told you five years ago, Harry. Please sit down. I am going to tell you everything.'” but all I’m going to say is that readers will find out the reason Lord Voldemort killed Harry’s parents and something interesting about Harry’s mother Lily and the Dursleys.

There’s a new Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher (much to Snape’s disgust) and she’s a woman, but there’s also the return of Professor “Mad-Eye Moody” (the previous teacher) and Lupin. Oh, and there’s that little matter about the death of a major character – and I think I’d be spoiling the surprise it I stated who it was (but it’s not one of the 3 main characters NOR is it [deleted something that I wasn’t supposed to say])… Finally there’s a new song for the Sorting Hat and a bit more about the Mundungus.

What else can I say at the point? Not much, but maybe in the coming weeks…

  1. Isn’t the book something like 3 years overdue. Wasn’t she meant to do a book a year?

  2. Well, J.K. Rowling did write the first four books at a rate of “one a year” but Jo didn’t plan it that way nor did she promise “a book a year”. Saying that, with her marriage and the release of the films she’s been otherwise busy and wasn’t quite happy with how book 5 was going so it went through a number of re-writes before publication. She’s also been working on the end of book 7 (the very last book), but she’s keeping that totally under wraps – only she knows how the series ends, but she’s got to some how get book 6 and the start of book 7 to “bridge the gap”.

As for how I got my hands on it… Well, I do seem to receive a lot of stuff before it is released (I’ve been getting newsstand magazines around 3 to 4 months before they come out, I’ve got a whole box full of authentic Microsoft software that hasn’t been released yet etc etc).. But how did I get Order of the Phoenix. Shall I just say I happen to know an ex-student University student or two from an university in Exeter region 🙂

Hmm, a “Guess The Movie” competition prize doesn’t sound a bad idea, I’ll have to look into it…

  3. I’m curious now – how did you get your hands on it? I would LOVE to read it, so I guess I’ll have to line up in the pre-order-queue (unless there’s a preview-copy as a prize in your “Guess the movie”-competitions? 😉

  4. …… any chance to borrow it and read through it….? 😉

    hmm… didn’t think so :-/

  5. Ben Ben

Please how can I get a preview copy of Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix? Please???

  6. Let’s just say this – everything in the blog entry is the truth as far as I know it: I haven’t lied or fibbed at all!

How am I trying to trick people?

  7. Jimbo Jimbo

I think that that cover is a phony, everyone knows that the cover has not been shown anywhere, for all I know it has not even been made. And the stuff about the book J.K. has all said in interviews. Sorry but I think your trying to trick people!

  8. Jimbo Jimbo

I think that cover is fake because in the black print it says “EMBARGOED UNTIL THE 20TH OF JUNE 2003 00:01 AM” it should be “EMBARGOED UNTIL THE 21ST OF JUNE 2003 00:01 AM” 12:01 am is the morning of the next day.

  9. Books are usually released from embargos 24-72 hours before publication to allow for reviews etc. to appear in newspapers on the TV. It’s no good for a newspaper article about the launch of a book to appear the day after the event – hence why the embargo is listed before hand.

For the record, the “proper” cover of the Childrens edition of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has the Phoenix facing the other way and the “title background” is yellow with J.K.Rowling’s author acknowledgement at the bottom (replacing Harry)

Hey I would just like to know if you will be putting the book on the internet as in not selling but like dispalying th entire book!!!
because down here in South Africa we always get things about three months late!!!

will ronald ever wipe the dirt from his eyes and see that hermione is carrying something and it is not groceries?

  12. Ellie Ellie

I think the reason why Dumbledore wants Harry to return to the Dursleys every summer is cos there is a Fidelius Charm on the Dursely’s house and that Dubledore is the secret keeper.

  13. Robbie Robbie

The door is now open for Harry + Cho to get together and I rekon by the last book that Dumbledore will die and Harry will be the new headmaster of Hogwarts! (I would guess that the ‘big character death’ in Order of the Phoenix might be a member of Ron’s Family?).

  14. Altern8ego Altern8ego

It’s true what you say about all the information relating to the Harry Potter book, but you haven’t read the book and all the details you “Exclusively”provide have actually been given to press by Rowling herself, in fact not even the illustrator of the REAL cover (And not the sad effort of a cover which you display) has read the book, he had to go on information provided to J.K Rowlings Editor, who is the only other person to have read the book. “Richie’s Ramblings” is right !!!

Sad that you have to make up stories about getting to read a book that is only due for release in June … anyway …. hope the REAL book is of as good qualilty as the previous four of them !

  15. Lupin Lupin

I agree with Altern8ego, and another point, if you DID as you claim get to read the book (Which I don’t believe for even a split-second) by underhand reasons of knowing an “ex-university student or two” from Exeter, why then would you have to “sign” anything ? Who would get you to sign a form , and what form is it you claim to have signed . Even if you claim to know Rowling, she isn’t giving out copies to anyone, not even her family for fear of people talking (And giving away a “plot point” that would ruin part of the book for it’s many admirers , you’re a dillusional fool, trying to make a name for yourself with a pathetic attempt for publicity.

  16. Ooh – well a few things:

I do know a couple of ex-university students from Exeter, I never said I *did* sign anything (“that I may or _may not_ have signed?”), the deleted section isn’t actually a “plot point”, but rather a correction I had to make because it was incorrect information, and I never really did this post as a “publicity stunt” – I did it just because I wanted to (plus the fact that the rest of the site gets more hits than this single article and it’s not an “important” site anyway!)

  17. Mofo Mór Mofo Mór

LOL ..so you know a few ex-Exeter university students , big deal, I know a few ex-Trinity College students but that doesn’t mean anything , just like you knowing some students from a second rate uni means nothing. I have to admit I do like your site man, but for the love of God keep it real , you don’t have to descend into the fantasy world of pretending to have read a book that you couldn’t have (And didn’t) read. Your site deserves better than lies !
