Day: 22 January 2003

Snippet: Lack Of Email

*snippet* I’ve now been around 5 hours without access to my main email accounts. I’ve actually got 4 POP3 servers that I currently fetch email from – but I have around 95% of all email go to my main ISPs mail servers (mainly for historical reasons than anything else). Unfortunately, they’ve been suffering technical problems (“Engineers are investigating”) for the past 5 hours so I’ve been practically email-less during that time. I can send email ok, and receive it via my other accounts: but the bulk of my mail is currently unreachable…. I’m getting withdrawal symptoms *sob*

So – if you’ve sent any email to me within the past 6 hours and haven’t had a reply yet, I’m not ignoring you – it’s just sitting unreachable on the mail server.

And will somebody please Guess That Movie. It’s infuriating from my point of view – I’ve got a big announcement to make regarding the “Guess That Movie” competition, around 3 more images “ready to roll” and the name of the movie can actually be reached within 2 clicks of the mouse (you’ll then have a list of 17 possible movies but only 2 actually meet the ‘same year as ‘She’s All That'” criteria).

Fun: Show Me, Show You, Kikkomannnnn!

[Kikkoman Advert]Thanks to Scott over at the Gamer’s Nook (who found it via Trish), I’ve watched the English subtitled version of Kikkoman: Show Me, Show You umpteen times – the music, combined the the Japanese audio kinda sticks in your head, and after the 4th time it’s difficult to stop singing “Show Me, Show You, Kikkoman, Kikkoman”. Of course, if you know Japanese – you can watch the original presentation.

But what about the little critters you see in the movie? Well, to answer that question you’ll have to watch the Banana And Shrimp Show Time flash movie (Japanese original version) from the same site.

Believe me, the movie about the foolish monsters is even more confusing than that singing, dancing, fighting soy sauce bottle! Now, if I can just learn Japanese I can read the story behind Kikkoman.

Fun: Thinking Outside the Box

[Car night]Here’s an old joke/story/thought that’s quite thought provoking. Filed under “Net: Fun” as I can’t quite think where else to put it – it isn’t quite a joke…

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night. You pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for the bus:
1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man (or) woman you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car.

Think before you continue reading.

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back.

However, you may never be able to find your perfect dream lover again.

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. What did he say?

Blogs: The 2003 Bloggies: Vote Now

[Bloggies]Well, the nomination stage of the 2003 Bloggies has finished and now it’s time to vote!

Yes, I know this appears to be old news already, but in all fairness, I did see the voting page before I left for work this morning (I in fact checked it before I went to bed, but it hadn’t yet been updated) – but I didn’t have time in the morning to actually blog about it.

Much to my disgust and disappointment, I didn’t make it into the final voting stage. Drat 🙁 Oh well, there’s next year to hope for.

So – who did I vote for and why?
