Guess That Movie: 2001 A Space Odyssey

[Guess That Movie]Since it appear Jish hasn’t had a “guess that picture” image since the 5th of December, it gives me a chance to run a ‘Guess That Movie/TV programme’ series.

Look at the image with the post (no, you can’t enlarge it). Which movie or TV series was that image taken from? (hint: It’s a classic!) What do you win if you are the first to get it right? A virtual “pat on the back” and well done from me. When’s the closing date? Probably the same time next week. How do you enter? Leave me a comment with this post (do the same if you have any questions). Good luck!
A: 2001- A Space Odyssey. Correctly guessed by Toby

Joke: Adam, an arm and a leg

[Adam and Eve]Adam was walking around the garden of Eden feeling very lonely, so God asked him, “What is wrong with you?”

Adam said he didn’t have anyone to talk to.

God said that he was going to make Adam a companion and that it would be a woman.

He said, “This person will gather food for you, cook for you, when you discover clothing, she’ll wash it for you. She will always agree with every decision you make. She will bear your children and never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. She will not nag you, and will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you’ve had a disagreement. She will never have a headache, and will freely give you love and passion whenever you need it.”

Adam asked God, “What will a woman like this cost?”

God replied, “An arm and a leg.”

Then Adam asked, “What can I get for a rib?”

Search: Meetup Arrangements Progressing

[ODP Meetup in Kew Gardens 2001]As hinted to in a previous entry the arrangements for the 2003 Open Directory Project UK editors real life meetup (phew – what a mouthful!) are progressing. We’ve already got a likely date (that I suggested 🙂 ) and voting has already started on the likely locations – Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds and Bournemouth are the most likely – Bradford, Gloucester, Exeter and Leicester are next. But it looks like no one wants to be sent to Coventry – it’s only got one vote so far..

I’ve invited the other 6 editors of Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Leicestershire/ (and, yes, I have memorised that nice long URL – hence why I keep on quoting it on places such as Resource-Zone) to the internal forum thread discussing it – bringing the total of editors contacted regarding it to over 100. The attendance last year was reasonable at 13 editors (location was the Briar Rose pub in Birmingham), but hopefully we’ll have a few more come this year.

If you are an UK ODP editor reading this (I know at least 3 people have found this blog via my private ODP editor profile – the private ones are accessible to ‘editors only’ and only contain a few little extra nuggets of information), then login to the ODP (forgot your password? Then get a password reminder!) and pop over to the internal forum “Penguin Cafe” and have a read of “A new year, a new UK editor get-together”).

Yes, there are only 6 listed editors for the whole of Leicestershire – over 1,180 sites – but there are less than half-a-dozen unreviewed sites in the whole of Leicestershire: the majority of those are “dead” sites (i.e. sites that are returning 404 errors, DNS is currently unable to resolve etc.) that have been moved to unreview until they come “alive” again. Of course, any editors of England/, UK/, Europe/ and Regional/ can also edit there – along with any editall or meta editor.

Fun: Independent Kittens

[Kittens singing Independent Women]Ok, I know this link is “old” in Internet terms, but I was going to feature it back in November. Why the delay? Well, the day I decided to feature it I notice it was actually inside that day’s .net magazine. So I decided to wait. Then it appeared on the BBC’s Weird and wonderful top web list. I thought I’d delay it again to try and let their bandwidth recover (I know what it’s like when a website is featured on/in the mainstream media- your bandwidth usage shoots through the roof).

Anyway, since the site is still up I guess you can all go and visit Joel Veitch’s Independent Woman site where the popular Destiny’s Child song Independent Woman song is performed by smoking, North of England kittens. Extremely funny, and the pre-lude to it where part of I.W. appears in Joel’s Destiny’s Child meets “Til Death Us Do Part” (i.e. they both feature Alf Garnett).

I also quite like the cover of Led Zeppelin‘s Immigrant Song (“we come from the land of the ice and the snow…”). And the “Tales of the Blodeis also very enjoyable in a slightly South-Parkish way (an animation that looks suitable for children, but is more aimed at Adults – a bit like Jamie and his magic happy lamp ).

H–ll, just go over to Rather Good and pick your own enjoyable Flash animation.

Net: Supermodels May Be Lonely

[Cindy Crawford Supermodel]Now, I thought I had a strange blog until I read this one. Supermodels are lonelier than you think has plenty of posts of supermodels (in some strange and near-Adult orientated poses) and some interesting details. Everything from Gucci‘s latest advertising and how the company has issued a press warning as they are only making around $54.3million per quarter (only?!?), to Friends actress Jennifer Aniston using toupee tape to secure her breasts inside a garment (yep, that is how they avoid ‘exposing’ more flesh then they want – they actually sticky tape their breasts to the clothes), to a picture that, initially, looks like a man is performing a sexual act on a woman – but is, in fact, just kissing her pregnant stomach.

I was actually tempted to put it on my Blogroll, but I don’t think it’ll be a blog that a read on a daily basis (more like once a week for a strange, often funny, in-sight to the modelling world). As for the title of that blog, well, are supermodels really that lonely? You never see them “out and about” on their own do you – or is that just the media perception again? (So-and-so is still single: not news, So-and-So seen with Mr/Miss/Mrs.X: could be a potential romance therefore it’s news). After all, if they were that lonely – that site would have a “Sign up here to go out with Supermodel X” wouldn’t it? 🙂

Slightly off-topic: Did you know that in September last year I received a telephone call asking if I was available for a model photo shoot? Yep, I was (and, if it was a wrong number they still knew my name). Alas, they didn’t call me back the following week – but it still got me wondering where they got my details. It could have been from a radio company, newspaper/magazine, the internet or a television company, but I guess I’ll never know (unless, of course, I call them back: I did store the number they dialled from on my mobile and confirmed they are a legit company so…). I can’t see myself being a model anyway – I haven’t got the breasts for it…
