Personal: Telephone Soliciting

All my personal telephone numbers have been registered with The Telephone Preference Service for some time, but today I received a recorded advertising message which has just p–ed me off. I’ve reported it to TPS and to ICSTIS (the UK regulator of premium rate numbers) with the following message:

On 15th September 2003 at 19.29BST, I received a recorded (female voice) telephone call to my home residential number (that is listed with the Telephone Preference Service).

The message said I had won a £1000 prize award (well, my telephone number had) and that I had to call 0906 638 9992 at £1.50 per minute (call last 7 minutes) to claim the £1000 award. For terms and conditions, I was to see www.moreflights.net (may be incorrect) or write to PO Box 6017, Basingstoke, RG21 4BZ.

It’s bad enough that I was called whilst my number is listed on the TPS, it’s twice as bad that it was a recorded message that had no human operator at the other end, third that I had just got to sleep after an extremely long and hard shift at work, fourthly that it was advertising a premium rate phone number and fifthly that it’s probably a “rip-off/con”!

I hope this company (which failed to give a name, details of where they had got my number – apart from ‘randomly chosen’ or any other identifying information) gets massively fined and shut down!

Just got a call from Fishy Nickers but it was during dinner so didn’t pick it up. Got suspicious as we didn’t remember entering the competition and they didn’t give their name very clearly. Luckily found this site. 0906 1122244 was the claim line number given.

If anyone has the same email, i’d be interested to know if the claim numbers and references are the same?

Sugaflux – Yes I got exactly the same email from the lovely Anne and yes exactly the same references! And guess what … no £30,000 for us ! It was obviously a scam but I was just interested to see how much of one it was so I called. Apparently we’ve won £1,000 of holiday vouchers if we send a SAE to The Payout Group, Department 5, Ida House, Triallward, Madiena, NXR09 MALTA !! Sounds like a timeshare scam to me. Anyone get the 30 grand?????!!! Yeah right ..

  4. Dan Dan

Mark up another one for Anne Evans of the Payout Group – same reference number and everything. Did not call the moo, so feeling fairly smug – all thanks to this thread! 🙂

  5. Recieved a call today [13::04::04] about 11.00 am saying we had won either £1000 cash or £2000 worth of “awards” called the number spoke to a woman who gave me another number to call. which i did. It was £1.50 p/m for 7 mins lots of blurb etc on an answer machine thing, a Personal Awards Claim Number and then a speedy address given of which I only caught half of it. Been to library and have managed to piece together that it is from

    Permier Promotions Hotline
    3-4 Woodlands Business Village
    Basingstoke,
    Hamshire,
    RG12 4JX.

Has anyone else had this particular call recently? I am going to write to them to claim my prize and also mention the ICSTIS so that they reply to me in some way. I will also contact the ICSTIS that i am claiming my prize! Is it worth it? If they are con artist … they need to be strung up by the n*ts [hope i didn’t type that last bit too quickly!!!]

    Hi

I too have been conacted, but by text message giving me an 0800 number to call. I was suspicious because of the different scams around these days, so i went to a public phone box (just in case it wasn’t freephone). I actually got a human being answer the call but she then proceded to give a a premium rate number to call, she informed me it was £1.50 per min and would last approx 7 mins. I called the number and was eventually told i had won a two thousand pound award offer and to write to: 3 – 4 Woodlands Business Village, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 4JX.
The mesage went so quick i didn’t get the full company title so i did a google search and eventually ended up here but discovered several different businesses listed for this address (google searched: 3 woodlands + basingstoke + RG21 4JX).
I think i will send my large SAE as requested to see if i do actually get my £2000 award offer and what it actually is, will contact you again when and if i receive it.
Thanks for giving us all the space to let others know that we’re not the only ones to be caught.

Yep, I too had the call. Despite quizzing the human at the other end of the line, she was insistent that I had won £1,000 in cash or a £2,000 prize. No such thing as a free lunch etc etc but has anyone been to their offices to claim their ‘prize’ in person? Would be interesting to find out ….

Did a search on google for “Nicky Fisher” after receiving such a call (12:51 / 16.04.2004) and found this site. I managed to scribble down the information which was from a recorded message (it appeared to be an answering machine message that tripped in on me taking the call, from a person called Nicky Fisher), it was to say that our household had won a prize of 42in plasma, personal dvd, cruise to bahamas, 6000 in cash or a 15k volkswagen beetle etc

The rest of the message gave the premium rate number of 0906 111 8844 and the standard blurb about it costing 1.50 a minute, get bill payers permission etc closing date 31.11.2004

The number was witheld and there were no other contact details such as address or alternative number. At the end of the message the call was automatically disconnected. Obviously a scam which I’m reporting to the relevant authorities.

Today just after having spoken to my bank manager regarding some personal issues,I received a phone call like everyone else from this female voice claiming that I had definetly won a cash sum of £2000. I took the chance to then find that the call will cost me £10.50. As a struggling parent, I am disgusted that buisnesses like these are allowed to start to then rip off hard working, struggling individuals like ourselves. I wrote a letter to the address given, but I would be very surprised if i even got it read.
can something not be done about this scam!!!!

I just had a call less than 10 mins ago from the infamous Nicky Fisher, saying all the above, (she’s the Claims Manager for Jackpot promotions and I’m a major prize winner following a competition I entered last year …goes on to list the prizes; plasma tv, DVD, cruise (!!!alarm bells!!!) or the star prize, Beetle. As in other people’s experiences she leaves 4344 as her extension number but curiously no landline number other than the premium rate 0906 1118844!

I’ve been had before but this did sound different to the other, more genuine, but I am sooooooo glad I did a search for Jackpot Promotions/Nicky Fisher!!! and am now just about to log a complaint with ICSTIS…

I too have been Nicki Fishered. She rang today (16th April 2004) so I did the nutty thing and rang the number.
I too have won a holiday in the Bahamas and I too am registered with the TPS surely with this many complaints its time for Watchdog to go round her house and p**s her off a bit.
I wonder how she got our number?
I was also suspicious because we don’t enter competitions either.

    HO hum.

  14. Kate Kate

By the way they seem to be changing their number as often as their socks. The number I called was:
    09061118844.

We too got sucked in and won a holiday to the bahamas after receiving a call from Nicky Fisher today, who only left her ext. number and prem rate number 0906 1118844 and failed to leave her direct telephone number. Sadly we found this web site too late, JackPot promotions need stopping.

  17. Thomson Thomson

had the phone call theis morning and ‘phoned too! Funnily I have won the Bahamas cruise I wonder if anyone has won the tv or dvd player at all? I am also registered with TPS and don’t remember entering any competition so where did they get my number? I have sent away the stamped addressed envelope just out of nosiness! So I will keep you psted when ? if anything comes.

  18. not a nicki Fisher Fan not a nicki Fisher Fan

This morning BT Call minder told us that we had a message. We rang the usual 1571 to be told that from Jackpot promotions we were one of the major prize holders in a competition that we entered last year. From the 42 Inch plasma TV to the Bahamas… Not forgetting the £15.000 VW BEETLE.
Nickie left her extension number… but no telephone number to match only saying that alternatively we could call the automated system to get the prize number.

Knowing all about the scams from Motley fool
    http://www.fool.co.uk/news/comment/2004/c040414e.htm?ref=emaillunchhtml

I decided to do a search… I heard the name Nicki Fisher clearly but jackpot was muffled. What I did was put them together.

I chose not to cal the £1.50 prize line… because if I win a prize why should i have to pay to receive it. I did not enter anything and i thought the phrase was ‘ YOU GOT TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT’

Thanks guys for this site is ACE…

  19. Gordon Gordon

Wish Id read this site before calling back the number I am usually so sceptical being a Police officer but fell hook line and sinker I do enter competitions you see but couldnt quite recall this one and called the Nicky Fisher at Jackpot Promotions on the premium rate line got promised the holiday to Bahamas and duly noted the claim number etc i will be following up with the stamped adressed envelope etc and well wait and see meanwhile as we say ” enquiries are continuing” 🙂

  20. Mr Harris Mr Harris

I too have had that call from Nicky Fisher and Jackpot promotions, leaving their message on my 1571 service. And yes I too am enlisted with TPS. Anyway rather than just deleting it, Oh I’m so cynical. I thought I’d do some following up. So here I am doing this search on google, and wow what a busy girl this Nicky has been. Also found some other interesting Jackpot promotion results. Check out this link http://www.creditman.co.uk/news/1903.html & also http://www.insolvency.co.uk/ . My turn to make a few calls I think come next week.

  21. EmmaN EmmaN

Hello People! Received a message on 7th April 2004 at 14:11 on my mobile, from “AWARD” saying: “You Have won a guaranteed £2000 award or even £1000 cash to claim UR award call free on 0808 145 47 49 (18+) 2 stop getstop on 88222 PHP, RG21 4JX”.

At work our numbers go out as “witheld” if we call our customers, and as I’m a born sceptic I called from work to get an operator telling me the same as you all about “guaranteed cash prize that would be “quickly re-allocated” if I didn’t call 09065 709 502. (if its guaranteed, how come its reallocated?). I called them about 3 more times to get the same mesae, each time quizzing them a bit more till I got the company name “Premier Promotions” which finally got a hit on Google (not easy, through all the exhibition & wrestling links)

At work, we have a number to the ICSTIS but this we understand is ALWAYS busy, but I’m thinking if WATCHDOG can get in on this would be great. I also feel legislature is needed that ANYONE requesting to use a premium rate number SHOULD have their contact details readily available as a matter of public trust and accountability – ICSTIS link on public premium rate users (http://www.icstis.org/icstis2002/default.asp?Node=67) is proof it can be done. Just ran a search for the post code on Royal Mail addres finder (http://www.royalmail.com, you need a registered email login tho) and it came up with a few companies for the Woodland Business Area.

    Plan of action:
    1) form some sort of union
    2) we ALL call their 0800 & 0808 numbers (141 first to withold)
    3) clog their lines till its too busy for them, all requesting more information. The more they hang up on us refusing to give, the more we cllbck and request. As its a free number, it should not cost us (Most have already paid more to the £1.50/min number!)
    4) Keep them busy while the ICSTIS, OFCOM & WATCHDOG do their investigation.
    5) When they’re found out, they’re made to pay each person the £1000 cash as promised.

Anyone for a bit of retribution??

EmmaN (yes – I’m VERY angry, and I haven’t even called the premium nubmer yet!)

  22. Rob Rob

I had the nicky fisher call too, “jackpot promotions”. I’ve had it twice now, both with different 0906 numbers costing £1.50/min.

What a load of old tosh, I hope they get some jail time.

  23. James James

Ahhh, good old google. Young Ms Fisher of Jackpot Promotions and general scamming fame called my parents this afternoon and left a message – usual plasma/VW beetle/cruise rubbish. As everyone says, it’s the admin fee and cost of the call which basically robs you of your cash.

Though I didn’t call back, I somehow doubt whether I am missing out…

BTW, the number we were given was 0906 111 8844

  24. lemonzorba lemonzorba

yep – another person called by jackpot promotions. it has been sat on our answermachine for a week now while i wondered whether to call. luckily it occurred to me to google the number 09061122111 and i hit upon this site. i nearly called the number & i regard myself as a suspicious type. the only thing that stopped me is that she gave her extension, but no number to call other than the premium rate number, whcih she said was an alternative number.

  25. Ben Ben

cheers for the site guys, this was vey handy. Just had a call from Premier Promotions with the same message about the £1,000 cash or £2,000 prize, and was asked to press ‘0’. This got me throught to a girl (real live voice!) who claimed that if I rang 09065709531 then I could get my prize… she even had the nerve to say, “it’s 1,000 cash or a 2,000 prize, so you can’t lose either way!” I asked her how she got my number and she hung up!

  26. Mark W Mark W

Many thanks guys from another happy user…SO glad I checked on Google before falling for the charms of Ms Nicky Fisher (experience in rooting out maliceous emails came in handy here…test the web before doing anything!). Patter on my answerphone is identical to that produced in your blog, phone number is 0906 111 8844. Keep up the good work, I’m off to contact ICSTIS….

  27. Bob Bob

I received the same message on 18 April and found this site through Google. How long does it take to shut this operation down?
    Thanks to all who contributed.

  28. I just got the uncolicited phone call from Premier Promotions on Sunday morning! It asked me to press 0. I then got through to an operator that told me that I had either won £1,000 cash or £2,000 in discount vouchers. Apparently all I had to do to claim my prize was to ring 0906 5709 543. Her name was Shirley.

What a rip off! I saw right through it. I asked her how much it would cost me to call this number and whether she was planning to tell me about these costs. She confessed it was £1.50 a minute and would last about 7 minutes. I asked her whether she knew that what Premier Promotions were doing is against Data Protection legislation and she said thought so. She said that she thought that it was. She also said that the phone call was in accordance with the ASA rules. The ASA rules deal with advertising and not unsolicited phone calls and sham prize promotions.

I am now going to complain to ICSTIS, the OFT and the Information Commissioner. I strongly urge anyone that feels strongly about this to do the same! Simply go to the ICSTIS website and make a complaint. It can be done online and only takes a couple of minutes. Simply cut and paste the following link in to your browser:

  29. Nick Nick

Thanks for your great site… glad I searched Google before calling Nicky Fisher on 09061 122000
I too am wondering if the company has got hold of the TPS list, as my numbers listed with them too!
Have complained to ICSTIS and notified BBC Watchdog… wonder if they can help shut this company down.

  30. Gareth Gareth

I just received a call from the scumbags too and once again am a TPS registered number. I wish ill on Nicky and her gang of trolls!

  31. Christine Christine

    HI all

Thank god for this site, had a call today from Premier Promotions telling me I had won £1000 or £2000 prize, and to dial 0 where I found myself being told to ring 09065709518 to claim my prize at £1.50/hr for 7 mins, thought I would check this site before calling and had my suspisions confirmed. Thanks all, like someone once told me, if a prize is genuine it should not cost you anything to claim it!!

  32. Lisa Lisa

I had Nikki Fisher call me today too… the number was 09061118844 (£1.50 per minute)… I wrote it down, checked through Google and found this page… thank you!

  33. CP CP

Recieved an answer-phone message from darling Nikki Fisher this afternoon, (1:12pm) with all the information word for word on some of the messages listed here. So gald I googled ‘Nikki Fisher Jackpot Promotions’ first!

The number she left this time was 09061100088 (£1.50 per min)

  34. Henhead Henhead

Another call from our Mutual Friend Nikki Fisher, same spiel Plasma TV, DVD Player, £2,500 PC, Cruise to Bahamas, £6,000 Cash, or the star Prize £15,000 Beatle. Same Extension 4334 but the number was 0906 111 88 44.

Luckily I searched google for that number, and hey presto, here I am. And £7 better off!!

Maybe Miss Fisher needs to cast in another pond, as she is running out of gullible fish!!

  35. jake jake

Nicky Fisher, well done everyone for NOT ringing her.The cow nearly had me,but you lot put me in the picture,THANKS.

  37. Mr Grumpy Mr Grumpy

just a qucik note to let all know I received a call from Nicky Fisher from Jackpot promotions this afternoon. Same rubbish as mentioned earlier, this time the premium rate number quoted was 0906 111 8080.

    Reported the call to ICSTIS.

    Great website !

  38. Steve Steve

Yes, Nikki’s still going strong. Received the very same message as described on my answerphone at 10.00 a.m. today. It sounded quite tempting but I’m always suspicious of these type of calls and was more so by her leaving only an extension number and an alternative premium rate claim line. Fortunately I was suspicious enough to research and found countless other lucky winners !!

  39. vonne vonne

I have received the very same offer by email from the very generous Anne Evans (payout group). Phone number and reference number the same. In a rare moment of common sense I Googled and lo Anne Evans seems to be offering many others the same ‘prizes’. BEWARE!

  40. Joh Joh

    Dear All,

I too was completely conned yesterday (April 21st)by premier hotline promotions. Like a fool I pressed 0 to be put through to a real life man who told me that the call to 09065 709506 would cost £1.50 per min but he also told me (only when I asked tho!) that the call would last a couple of minutes. At no time did anyone tell me it would take 7 mins!! Anyway, I too have won £2000 of vouchers including trips to football grounds etc. (woo) and was just about to post off my details when I was looking for the address of this company (like others have said it is read out far too quickly) and I arrived at this site. I don’t know whether to send off the claim anymore. They already know all the details they asked for apart from my address, as they asked for them when I called the premium rate number. Has anyone else received their prize from these guys?

  41. Kirsty Kirsty

Yup, I’m a mug. Got the call yesterday and listened to the 1571 message today. So, since I’m desperate to win a fan-dabby-doo 42″ plasma -nonetheless – television (would have looked great on my chimney breast ) I decided to give dear old Nikki a wee phone back. I’m not TPS listed but have considered it and now I’m wondering whats the point if these calls can still come through?? I was warned it was £1.50 p/min and the call would last approximately 4mins 50secs. Then I was told to input my age (???) 22 by the way, then my MOBILE phone number (can’t wait for those texts to come rolling in). Listened to wait for my plasma tv prize and lo and behold I won the holiday (see you guys there!). The phone number I was given was 0906 111 80 80 and the address was:

    Jackpot Promotions
    PO Box 2087
    Wrexham
    LL11 4ZQ

So I’m gonna head over to that ICSTIS web site. This has to be sorted out. What I wanna know is if anyone has sent away a SAE and if so what happened? I also wanna know how I can get my mobile phone number removed so I don’t receive the on-going text messages!!!

  42. Looby Looby

    Hi all,

Nicky Fisher of Jackpot Promtions(bless her heart) is having trouble shifting her prizes – she left me a message on Sunday 18th April to say that I was a ‘major’ prize winner and that I had either won a 42” plasma TV, a personal DVD player, a £2500 PC, an all expenses paid cruise to the the Bahamas, £6000 cash or, yes, you’ve guessed it a £15,000 VW Beetle!

Needless to say, I thought it was too good to be true and thought I would do a check with Google to see if it was a all a big fat scam. Thanks to this site, my fears were confirmed and I won’t be adding to the vast pot of money that the company must be generating.

The number I was given (apart from x4344 – not very handy when you don’t know the company number though!) was 0906 1100088. The message did warn me about the cost of calling (£1.50 per minute lasting 5mins 50secs) and that I was to only call if I had permission of the bill payer – how thoughtful of her!

I feel an e-mail to Watchdog coming on……

  43. if I was Nicky Fisher I'd be rich if I was Nicky Fisher I'd be rich

Nicky’s still Fishing for mugs. Left her lovely gushy message on 1571 today (around 5pm)- same as Jonathan’s (6 April). She is still using the 09061118844 number. Luckily I never call premium rate numbers.

  44. Thingy Thingy

Yeah, I just got a call from who I assume is associated with those that have called you people.

It was a guy, and he didn’t give me his name. It was pre-recorded. I had to press ‘1’ after listening to him tell me that I had something very important to listen to(I thought it was strange that he didn’t even care who had picked up the phone; he was looking for a ‘winner’ who hadn’t actually won).

I listened to him talk about me, of all people(I’m not even 18, and how many people below that age take part in such contests?), winning in a prize draw or something, when I hadn’t entered anything(I enter nothing that isn’t a natural opening biologically tailored towards reproduction(a human one mind)). I could’ve had either a cruise, which I couldn’t have legally attended alone, a car, which I would’ve been too young to drive, or a camcorder(which, let’s face it, is no logical option amongst cars and fancy boat trips).

He left a hotline number, and lacked the intellect to understand that not all people can instantly, magically concoct paper and writing implements, and write abnormally quickly, or at least have short term memories that render computer systems futile. So, I was only actually left with fragments of the phone number. There was ‘0905’ at the start, and ’80’ maybe two digits later.

    1471 resulted in a witheld number message…

I typed the fragments within a search, and decided it a good practise to type ‘hotline’ and ‘prize’ in there too, finding this site. Decidedly, the similarities posed cause doubt, and when ferrigenous with the illogicalities present, calling is unattractive.

These filthy swines should be molested by answering-machine-wielding maniacs, hogtied by their own toss-rockets, and revoked of their abilities to partake in child production(with the aid of large knives(or small knives if one is to talk of sensible proportionalities)).

Damn. My wife fell for this one, in the same sceptical but hopefull manner that many seem to have done.

    The address was

    Premier Hotline Promotions
    3-4 Woodlands Business Village
    Basingstoke
    Hampshire
    RG21 4JX

Your has provided me with some much needed ammunition to get her to make a complaint. This Fisher person must be making a ton of money out of this. Why exactly isn’t it illegal?

I am also registred with TPS and have recived a call from jack pot promotions with an automaited message saying I had won a prize of either £1,000 cash or a £2,000 prize and to press zero for an opperator.

I then spoke to a opperator called Ronnie who assure me that the prize was genuine and had been approved by varoius regulatory bodies. She couldn’t tell me what the prize was as it was picked at random.

She informed me that I would not need to buy any thing else and the prise would not be discount vouchers.

I was told that I had to call a premium rate number at £1.50 per min and the call would last up to 7 Minuets but usually lasted 4.

I don’t usually call these number as they are usually a rip off or con 3 holiday vouchers which to use you have to eat all your meals in the most expensive resturant in the hotel ect.

Anyway as I am sure what they are doing is illegal in some way I decided £10.50 for the phone call and 50p for a couple of stamps is worth it to stop them.

The call is 6 1/2 mins of rubbish and then 30 seconds for the prize claim number and the address which is read out so quick you can’t write it down hence ending up at this site when I did a web search for premier hot line promotions.

I am going to send away my stamp addressed envelope and when / if I get anything back that is at all different from what they said I will be on to trading standards. In the mean time I am off to ICSTIS and TPs to complain and I going to writte to watchdog and any one else I can think of.

  47. Just found a message from Nicki Fisher. Turns out I’ve won a plasma tv and it arrived today. Its great! They couldnt understand why other people hasnt claimed them. OBVIOUSLY I AM JOKING!
I thought I would do the old google search before falling for that one. Glad to see plenty of other people doing the same. However, if you think about how many people have fallen for this then the money they must be making is awesome. Surely they will have attracted too much attention with this one. Let’s hope they get someone for it, although no doubt they will dissolve the company and start a new one a few weeks later.

Check out my totally free (no catches for once!) website for teachers.

  48. Do you think anyone checks this Nicki Fisher mail box or it just gets dumped in the bin?
Why not send parcels of crap (literally) to the address. If everyone does it will be hilarious for her when she picks up the mail!

I received the 0906 scam email from richardedwards456@tiscali.co.uk
    and
    1. Reported it to British Telecom to shut down Premier Hotline Promotions lines in Hampshire,
and notify BT Premium Rate group to no longer issue 0906 numbers to Premier.
    3. Notified abuse@uk.tiscali.com to terminate the richardedwards account
    4. Notified Spamhaus to alert other ISP’s.
    5. Notified Interpol and US FTC in order to take legal action to stop the Premier scam.
    6. Notified US Secret Service who handles similar Nigeria 419 scam email.
I urge others, particularly in the UK, to contact BT to deny telephone service to Premier and any of it’s Officers.

I to was “Nicky Fishered” yesturday. It was the same old message re winning the plasma tv, £6000 in cash the holiday in the Bahamas etc. The rate was £1.50 a minute and the message said that it would last approx 5 mins 50 secs….NICE! She left her extension of 4344 but not the switchboard number, she however did leave the premium rate line number of 0906 110088.

Thought it was strange that not only was the message left on my answer machine at a time that I was at work but also one would have thought that if I had indeed won a prize then surely she’d have known what it was prior to calling.

The call got me thinking and I did indeed ring a number for Jackpot promotions sometime last year from a competition run in the Daily Mail. It was the same kind of thing and at that time I won a holiday (all expenses paid) to the Bahamas. Thing was that the holiday was for one person so I’d have had to pay full price for the second person.

Think I’ll contact the TPS and ICSTIS as well, don’t know if they will be able to do anything though as I found that Jackpot promotions run out of Australia.

Thanks for all your comments, it makes great reading.
