Personal: Telephone Soliciting

All my personal telephone numbers have been registered with The Telephone Preference Service for some time, but today I received a recorded advertising message which has just p–ed me off. I’ve reported it to TPS and to ICSTIS (the UK regulator of premium rate numbers) with the following message:

On 15th September 2003 at 19.29BST, I received a recorded (female voice) telephone call to my home residential number (that is listed with the Telephone Preference Service).

The message said I had won a £1000 prize award (well, my telephone number had) and that I had to call 0906 638 9992 at £1.50 per minute (call last 7 minutes) to claim the £1000 award. For terms and conditions, I was to see www.moreflights.net (may be incorrect) or write to PO Box 6017, Basingstoke, RG21 4BZ.

It’s bad enough that I was called whilst my number is listed on the TPS, it’s twice as bad that it was a recorded message that had no human operator at the other end, third that I had just got to sleep after an extremely long and hard shift at work, fourthly that it was advertising a premium rate phone number and fifthly that it’s probably a “rip-off/con”!

I hope this company (which failed to give a name, details of where they had got my number – apart from ‘randomly chosen’ or any other identifying information) gets massively fined and shut down!

Thanks to everyone who’s posted here. I came home to a Nickki Fisher call today – plasma TV, Bahamas holiday etc. Just an extension number or a premium phone line. Glad I chceked here first – next stop ICTIS.

  2. Annie Robson Annie Robson

I’ve just suffered at the hands of old FISHI NICKERS!!!

Luckily my husband suggested I did a search. I was already deciding which prize I wanted most. Ah well at least I’m going to get a tin of fence paint for not being totally gulible!

  3. Fiona Spencer Fiona Spencer

Had a Lindsey Fisher leave a message on answer m/c, plasma screen etc, phone number 09061 110088. Glad I checked it out first!

I got the “Nicky Fisher” call on Saturday (15thMay)and it was word perfect to one of the posted scripts; Plasma TV etc. I thought I had finally won something after all the competitions I enter! Thankfully I was reluctant to pay so much, having done so in the past, so I decided to look for the number she had “accidently” forgotten to leave! I did a search for Jackpot Promotions and stumbled across this.Thank you so much for this page! I can’t believe Tricky Nicky is still getting away with it! Especially the fact that the people who fall for it are not rich people who wouldn’t notice and extra £10 on their phone bill, but people who cannot afford a cruise in the Bahamas or a brand new pc and jump at the chance to win them! Something needs to be done by the authorities. These companies can’t be allowed to carry on taking advantage of vunerable people like this!

Carolius again. After couple of months- still waiting for my verdict from ICSTIS, however I received a letter from Jackpot Promotions this morning- maybe they are now mailshotting all those people who didn,t ring darling Nicky back.. The address is Cobden House, Cobden Street, Manchester. M6 6WF. The letter was not from Nicky Fisher but Marke Browne – Promotion Manager. It was the standard “you have won” but this time the charge for the phone call was in the small print. Phone number was 0905 809 0001. Hope this helps.

  6. Paul Savage Paul Savage

Had a call from Nicki Fisher this afternoon of Jackpot Promotions, seems I’ve won a prize……shame it costs more in premium phone calls to claim it than it is worth !!!!

    Hi all

We’ve been Nicky Fisher’ed today!! Glad I googled first! Got all the chat as the rest of you did all those prizes and the 09061 122244 number, but we got another number which wasn’t left on the message but shows up on my phone – 0207 031 4614 which was obviously permantley engaged! Didn’t even bother with the 09 number
    Hope this helps

Hi there, I just picked up my message from Nicki Fisher and for a split second thought it was true. My husband and I both listened to it 4 times and he wanted to call it. I thought I’d check the Internet first – just in case- and boy I’m I glad I did. I can’t believe this, I can think of at least 10 people who would’ve just dialled the number. Thank heavens for Google and all of you who have posted.

  10. Andy Andy

Andy again from 7/5. I have also just received a letter today, but from a company called Lifestyle Rewards UK, claiming that I have won, one of the usual prizes. In small print it then states that the prize I have won is worth at least 5 times the cost of the call £1.50/min for 6mins 30 sec duration. Anybody else heard of this CON-pany. I don’t think I’ll be calling this one either

  11. sandman sandman

Yep – I just got a recorded message from the same Nikki Fisher of Jackpot Promotions this morning. Premium rate number given was 090611 22 111, and I got supicious mainly because she gave the extension number 4344 WITHOUT giving a mainline number with which to ask for that extension. In addition I would have expected any major prize company to give either a localrate number or even a freephone number to anyone who’d won a prize of this magnitude. I’ve sent a message to BBC’s Watchdog – and I’m hoping they will look into this soon, because despite covering some legal bases by saying “you must get the billpayers approval before calling”, they are fraudulently getting unsuspecting victims to call this number.

  12. Connor Connor

I have received a call from Nikki Fisher on ext 4344 telling me I had won the world etc etc.. Just give her a call on 0906 1122000 to claim my prize.. needless to say I was suspicious & looked her up on google & found all you wonderful people. I am also registered with TPS but they dont seem to be doing anything about this Nikki character.. Id love to call her at home with all this rubbish!!

  13. Alan Alan

Just had a message left on my answerphone from Karen at Holiday rewards having won a holiday to Orlando. Given a freephone number to call 0800 258 5020 and a special invitation confirmation number of 44430. Wonder if anyone else has receivd this or if anyone know what this is about?
Having previously received a call from Nicky Fisher, is there any connection. I am also, now registered with TPS.

  14. Nat Nat

Yesterday, 19/5/2004, Nicky Fisher, of Jackpot Promotions, extension 4344, or £1.50/min 0906 112 2244. TV, dvd player, PC, Bahamas Cruise, £6K, or VW car up for grabs ! Wow !
Wanted to try and locate the company to call them directly, and her specifically, and found this page (via http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread/t-10291.html) : THANKYOU :o)
Will look into number blocking tricks since for the last 6 months I’ve had either a “no message” answering machine message, or dead air when I’m in and catch the caller ; or my luck could be in, and I *do* have a Stalker :o)

  15. Chas Chas

    Just got scammed today.
Phoned TPS and they put me through to ICTIS.
Yes you can pay to have the calls not come through but the company in question will just change their number. Apparently they have over 10,000 numbers at their disposal.
The best thing to do would be for us all to just keep ringing the 0800 number all day and then really annoy them.
    Chas.

  16. buffy buffy

Nikki likes me too, but I’m so glad she got in touch cos I’m fed up of getting calls that end up in dead air. I can’t believe they are allowed to keep calling!

  17. sue sue

yeah I’m a winner too!@ 2.11pm today got a message off Nikki to say poss won a major prize or one of many, well I thought it over and was looking forward to the cruise till hubby said hold on have you entered a competition? no. so thanks for a quick look on the internet and all the valuable info given I will have to do with our caravan holiday in scotland, well I know that at least thats real! and I’m still £9 better off for a whiskey or two.

  18. Chris Chris

got a call from Nicky Fisher (now accounts manager at Jackpot Promotions) yesterday with the list of prizes – sounds wonderful. “Call me back on extension 4344 (the switchboard number you get by telepathy) or call our premium rate number 09061122244.
I wonder if she pays income tax on all of her various jobs – she seems to get about a bit, must have a bike….

  19. Rondy Rondy

    She’s still at it…
Had the call from Nikki Fisher yesterday, 22nd May. I haven’t registered with the TPS, but was about to, as I’ve recently been getting many, many dead air calls throughout the day and evening. Not pleasant with a new baby in the house. I did a search on Yahoo and found a listing in a creditors report for a “Jackpot Promotions Ltd, Coventry” which had filed for voluntary liquidation back in 2000. I wonder if this is related???

  20. Rondy Rondy

Just complained online to ICSTIS myself.
And registered with the TPS + MPS.

By the way, Nikki Fishers latest claim line number is 0906 1100088.

  21. Karen Bowman Karen Bowman

I received a call from Nicky Fisher 23rd May 04. Ckecked ‘google’ before calling the 0906. Lucky for me!

  22. P. Atkins P. Atkins

    AND TODAY’S WINNER IS…

Lucky old me!!! I’m going to the Bahamas, hope that lovely chirpy Nicky is coming along too. I too have had countless “silent” calls, and offers of free holidays etc. and am mighty fed up with the fact that so little can be done…

  23. dazza dazza

Nikki phoned me yesterday, 24th May, the premium rate number costs £1.50 per minute and lasts 5 mins 50 secs (i.e 6 mins or £9.00) thats half my monthly bill. Message was on my answerphone that my wife listened to first, thought it was genuine as i do enter a lot of on-line competitions. I listened to it and it sounded good but checked out internet first (i’m not one for phoning premium rate numbers), came here, thanx to everyone who posted !!

The number i got to call was 0986 1122000, seems they are constantly changing the claim number. These calls are getting better all the time…

People! Victory! METRO 25/05/04 Page 11:

“£450,000 FINE FOR SMAP TEXT MESSAGE FIRMS.
Six comapanies which sent thusands of spam text messages telling people they had won cash prizes have been fined a record of £450,000, it emerged yesterday.

The texts often claimed the recipient had won either £1000 or £2000 and told them to call a premium, rate number, which then charged them up to £1.50 a minute to claim.

However, the prizes turned out to be holiday or flight vouchers with various conditions which made them worthless.

Other people received what appeared to be missed calls from another mobile or a landline. But those who rang back were connected to a recorded message promoting the scam.

The operators also targeted housholds through calls to landlines which played the same message when people answered.

Watchdogs at the Independent Commmittee for the Supervision of Standards of Telephone Information Services acted after a flood of complaints this year.

ICSTIS. which regulates premium-rate services, disabled several numbers starting 090. It traced the problem to six firms based abroad but which the watchdog found were linked.

It fined each firm £75,000 for breaching its code of practice, including not making clear the price of calls. They were also barred from operating any premium-rate services in Britain.

ICSTIS is now looking into the part played by Smile Telecom, based in Bury, Lancashire, which was the British agent for the six companies.

Communications Minister Stephen Timms said: ‘Consumers who get ripped off by these scams will be pleased to see justice has been done.'”

    Result!

Just got a message from Nicky Fisher today was very suspicious. So glad there are websites like this around. The number I was asked to call was 0906 11 000 88 @ £1.50 a min.

Has anyone made a complaint to the police regarding this, if so did they care??

  26. Mike Mike

Well, you guys have said it all so I haven’t got much new to add.

Having just been Fishered I thought I’d add my name to the long list of complaints – I only wish I’d Googled it before calling.

Skint as I am, the prospect of a cash prize or something I can sell was too much to resist – not surprising that I’d win the cruise though!

For reference, mine was Jackpot Promotions, Nikki Fisher’s number was ext 4344, but with no switchboard number, the premium number was 09061118080 and the address was PO Box 2087, Wrexham, LL11 4ZQ.

    Cheers then,

    Mike.

  27. Paul Paul

I’ve just been Fishered (Jackpot Promtotions). Recorded message claiming a contest I had entered over a year ago.
Didnt take down all the details, but the number I was given to ring was 09061118844 @ £1.50min to claim.
Only another 2 weeks for TPS to kick in……

  28. Tim Tim

Like the rest of you – recorded message for the ***** family, from Nicky Fisher, calls manager, of Jackpot Promotions. List of prizes, cruise to Bahamas, a £15,000 Beetle, a DVD player etc. I didn’t ring because I checked on Google first and found this.
Many thanks to all of you!!! You have saved me £6 so I’ll buy you a virtual pint…
The number this time was 0906 1122000.

  29. Mike Mike

    Hi All,

I too had the Nikki Fisher answerphone message.

It seems to me that she wants to find you not at home so she can leave her message, that way its more alluring!

What worries me is how she got my name, my phone number I can understand!!!

I think, in true internet revolution style, we need to “spam the spammers”

If nothing else, I can fill in lots of free magazine / info requests to the PO Box address they are using – Anyone any brighter ideas?

  30. Mark Mark

    26th May 2004 15.00hrs:
I have just been ‘Fishered’ same blurb Holiday, etc. call 0906 112244.

Perhaps we should design some bumper stickers.
    “I’ve been well Fishered”

    To;
Nicky and friends, you will be found.

  31. Jackpot demotions Jackpot demotions

    Hi to everyone,

I have also had Nikki Fisher leave me an answer phone message. In fact I have had a few calls lately where the person simply put the phone down without saying anything, so I am guessing that this is Nikki Fisher, fishing for people’s answering machines!!!

The exact message that was left on my answering machine was…
“This is a message for the (long pause) Tate (another long pause) family and I am the claims manager for Jackpot promotions and you entered one of our competitions last year. I am delight to inform you that you’ve been drawn as one of the major prize winners. Now basically that means I’m please to tell you that you have won either a 42″ plasma television, a personal DVD player, £2,500 personal computer, an all expenses paid cruise to the Bahamas or £6,000 cash or possibly our star prize which is a £15,000 Volkswagen Beetle. Now in order to claim your prize you can call me, as I said my name is Nick Fisher, my extension number is 4344 alternatively you can call our automated claim line on 09061118844 that’s 09061118844 calls cost £1.50 per minute but may cost more from a mobile depending on your network provider and if you’re not the phone bill payer you must have the phone bill payers permission to call this service. The average call duration is 5 minutes and 50 seconds and callers must be aged 18 years or older. The closing date for this promotion is 30 November 2004. Ok, thanks bye bye.”

Why can’t this person be stopped?!!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this posting. It saved me being a victum of this telephone scam.

  32. Zöe Zöe

Had the exact same message as Jackpot demotions above – same number. Was left on my answerphone yesterday lunchtime.

Was a little sus, as why give your extention if you don’t give the number to call to get that extension.

I even double checked the caller display log on my phone, WITHHELD it says for that time.

Thanks to this site Niki Fisher will not be getting a call back from me.

  33. RichieRich RichieRich

I am looking forward to catching up with you all in the Bahamas, unfortuantely I found this website a little too late, about £7 too late. Next stop for me shall be Watchdog and ICSTIS.

Is it just 1571 customers or is it any answer phone, just wonder whether BT have sold a list of 1571 customers to Jackpot Promotions

Don’t forget the sun tan lotion!

  34. millie millie

Well I’ve just had the Fisher phone call!!! Nearly believed it so (fool that I was) rang but was suspicious to decided to ring the number 0906 11 22 000 AGAIN and entered in my husband’s details and of course he’d won the same holiday cruise to the Bahamas on the same Claim No at that point I thought it was a scam and checked with Google (shame I didn’t do it before, but I know better now) The claim number I got for both is BH 1104 – NEVER AGAIN will I fall for it!

  35. BRIAN BRIAN

YUP, MY DAD GOT A MESSAGE FROM NICKY FISHER YESTERDAY. HE LIVES IN SCOTLAND.

IT SOUNDED FAIRLY GENUINE ALTHOUGH THE FACT THAT SHE LEFT AN EXTENSION NUMBER BUT NO LOCAL OR NATIONAL RATE TELEPHONE NUMBER MADE ME SUSPICIOUS.

SO, GOOGLEISED THE INFORMATION AND ENDED UP HERE.

I LIKE THE IDEA OF SENDING HER PILES OF CRAP!! :O)

    BRIAN

  36. Nick Nick

Just had the same call by text message and call to my home!! Extension number given, but no number to call – then suspicious and checked on web – thanks to this site has saved me a few bob!!
The number given out this time was 0906 1118080
    Thanks

  37. Joe Joe

Got the Nicky Fisher message yesterday.

Again the same thiongs that made u guys suspicious made me suspicious, so i did a bit of surfing and ended here….

    Thanks Guys 🙂

    I’m not a gullible as i thought i was after all 🙂

  38. Joe Joe

wonder what her real name is?

  39. Neil Neil

We have also been ‘Nikki Fishered’. It sounds convincing, but the premium rate number and 6 minute call time rang alarm bells (I made it a whisker under £9 for the privilege) – so we Googled her and found your site. Thanks 🙂

  40. Ian Ian

Just been Fishered. All the usual “prizes”, “extension” (4434). I did not ring – not clever, just a skinflint! – but instead I Googled the phone number (0906 1122111) and found this site. Interesting stuff!

  41. sarah sarah

thank you for posting your experiences here, fortunatly i had the sense to google nikki fisher and found out about this scam! will be reporting to icstis, sarah x

  42. Alun Alun

Hello, I got exactly the same call last night, the only problem was I hung up and picked up the phone again to find the message still rambling on – I had to unplug the phone in the end – surely you cant be charged when someone calls you though- can you?

    Thanks

    06/06/2004 –

I returned home to find message from Nicky Fisher. All the blah……… about winning some super prize.
Telephone Claim number was 09061122000 -£1.50min
Company name given as ‘Jackpot Promtotions’
Address given for claim was a po box 2087 –
Royal mail give this address as a company called Magical Games, Summerhill WREXHAM [Regent St.]

Has anyone ever seen their super prise ?

  44. Dan Dan

I have also been Nicky Fishered – I also agree it is rather worrying that these gits can find your surname out and link it to your phone number. I too will be reporting these charlatans to Watchdog and the ICSTIS.

Has anyone noticed calls that just hang up when you answer around the time of these Nicky Fisher calls. We originally thought it was a hoax caller but maybe they just go for your answerphone?

  45. Atheki Atheki

Bless the leading lady, she must b a real Dame. Pls report back Sara. Meanwhile, have a wonderful, happy happy day!

  46. karen karen

I received the same message from “Nicky Fisher” on my answerphone Sunday evening 6.25pm 6/6/04 I sure she said Jackport promotions with the same premium rate telephone number as shown above 0906 1100088. calls costing £1.50 and the call would last 5 mins 50 sec
Needless to say I googled and found this list and I will also be reporting to ICSTIS.

    Keep up the good work!

  47. Mellie Mellie

I Googled on Miss Fisher’s telephone number as I found the way she paused before and after saying our family name suspiscious. I also though it odd that she gave an extension number but no return number to call except a premium rate number. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences I knew it was too good to be true. I too shall complain bitterly as I am registered with the telphone preference service.

  48. barbara barbara

Ms Fisher must have been busy yessterday indeed. Same message on my ansaphone, ext 4344 or call premium rate number etc etc. I couldn’t remember entering that competition last year! £1.50 per minute and the call will last 5 mins 50 seconds. Given that information i almost fell for it, but am a bit wiser now, I’ve been stung once by similar nonsemse on my mobile.
It really jars me off because just for one moment, being human, you get that buzz of thinking you’ve really won something worth having then reality kicks in. Please can someone get these phone/text/whatever scams stopped! Found your site just by putting the phone number in by the way.
    Cheers

  49. Hi All,

I just got home to discover that I’d been left a message by a fit sounding chick called Nikki Fisher. She told me that I’d won a competition I’d entered last year etc. etc.
Same thing as the majority of those above :-
    42″ Plasma TV
    Personal DVD Player
    £2500 PC
All Expenses Paid Cruise to the Bahamas
    £6000 Cash
Or maybe even the Jackpot Prize of a £15,000 VW Beetle.
The number used this time is “0906 111 9000”
I also am registered with the TPS & I’m bloody annoyed.
I’ve searched through Companies House looking for a registered address (I travel a bit & would like to pay them a visit) but, the only thing I found was a company that used to be called Jackpot Promotions Ltd who now go by ‘Chairman of the Board Limited’ (changed in 1997).

If anyone has any contacts at BT or ICSTIS please try to get an address for these scumbags & email it to me – jackpot at johnoandsarah dot com.

Thanks to Richy for this site.

  50. steven steven

I also received a call from Nikki Fisher.. She does get around a lot..

All I can recomend is that everyone reports them to ICSTIS as the only way we can stop them is to keep getting them fined. The only problem is that it takes under 2000 people to call the number for them to get the £10,000 fine paid for and they could easily be getting tens of thousands of people ringing them.

BTW registering with TPS does nothing for me as I still get about 10 cold calls a week. I inform the companies when they ring and all they say is that the number is in the list so they ring it.

Though if I ever need double glazing a new mobile phone or cheaper phone calls I won’t have to wait long.
