Personal: Telephone Soliciting

All my personal telephone numbers have been registered with The Telephone Preference Service for some time, but today I received a recorded advertising message which has just p–ed me off. I’ve reported it to TPS and to ICSTIS (the UK regulator of premium rate numbers) with the following message:

On 15th September 2003 at 19.29BST, I received a recorded (female voice) telephone call to my home residential number (that is listed with the Telephone Preference Service).

The message said I had won a £1000 prize award (well, my telephone number had) and that I had to call 0906 638 9992 at £1.50 per minute (call last 7 minutes) to claim the £1000 award. For terms and conditions, I was to see www.moreflights.net (may be incorrect) or write to PO Box 6017, Basingstoke, RG21 4BZ.

It’s bad enough that I was called whilst my number is listed on the TPS, it’s twice as bad that it was a recorded message that had no human operator at the other end, third that I had just got to sleep after an extremely long and hard shift at work, fourthly that it was advertising a premium rate phone number and fifthly that it’s probably a “rip-off/con”!

I hope this company (which failed to give a name, details of where they had got my number – apart from ‘randomly chosen’ or any other identifying information) gets massively fined and shut down!

Dreaded Nicky got us too! On the answerphone message I picked up she left an extension number to ‘call her’ at – 4344, nice touch, and quite safe for Jackpot Promotions since it’s not much use without a phone number to go with it! We did call the premium rate number, and apparently have got a free cruise – but somehow I don’t think I’ll be sending off an envelope. Should have checked out Jackpot here first!

    Nicky Fisher, Nicky Fisher,
    we’re gonna find you,
    then you’ll wish’ya,
    never phoned us,
    Nicky Fisher.

  3. Jerry Jerry

Yep, she’s still at it. I got Ms Fisher on my answer machine last night. Usual message about prizes and her extension without any other number.
The premium rate number listed this time was 0906 1119000.
I didn’t phone but found this list instead.
I wonder how many people actually fall for it, Ms Fisher (or whatever her real name is) and friends must be making a mint.

    Hi,
We got the same message, we were stupid enough to call. Same thing Nicki Fisher leaving only her extension number and automated service number, but unfortunatley I am too curious to leave these things alone.

We were asked to enter age, mobile number and were told we had won a cruise to the baharmas and to send a SAE to Jackpot Promotions, po box 2087 Wrexham, LL11 4ZQ. However when it came to doing this I still had a gut feeling that I needed to know more first, this sounded too good and easy. So I googled and found this thank you to everyone for this site otherwise the delightful Ms Fisher would also have my address. I am going to complain to ICTIS and Trading Standards this can’t go on!

  5. David David

    Just had an idea…

if we all send a blank sealed envelope to that PO Box and forget to put the stamp on it. I assume (unless someone tells me different) that PO Box will have to pay a first class stamp postage fee!
Of course there are various permunations of this ie send a very heavy small item such as a stone or scrap metal which will incur higher charges!

A way of recouping your lsot money!?

  6. charli charli

i had the same call from Niki fisher! was about to ring the number buti decided to check it out first! as a new driver i was deleighted to have “won” a VW beetle!

anyone who has had this call should report it to there service provider, hopefully with so many phone calls they will do something about it.

  7. Chas Chas

They are still at it; Identical to Mike Long’s comment above. Nicky Fisher – X4344 – (caller withheld number) – caribean cruise; Giant LCD;VW beetle etc.., Current number is 09061119000.

Glad I checked with Google, Taken me half an hour to read all the comments posted!

The TPS, ICSTIS, and BT all need a kick up their, buck passing, backsides!!

It is time to complain to your MP’s – democracy works, try it! send your MP a complaint and a link to this fantastic page.

Just like to thank every one here, we have had 2 calls from Niki Fisher and almost fell for the scam. Luckily we were a little inquisitive and found this site which stopped us from calling the premium rate number 0906 1119000!
Had exactly the same message left twice on our answer phone saying our family had won “plasma screen tv, dvd, £2,500 pc, cruise, £6000 cash or the top prise of volkswagon beetle’. Please call ext 4344 – but only the premium rate number was given.
I think this is awful and just so thankfull that we looked on google and found this site.

Came home to find the imfamous Niki Fisher had called. Many thanks to the posters on this site for confirming my suspicions. Next stop ICSTIS.

  10. sue sue

Yes, Nikki Fisher decided to chat to my answer phone at 3pm on 26/6/04 and I fell for it too! At least I’ve saved money on the stamp thanks to everyone here. My phone number is ex-directory too!

  11. Ash Ash

Had the same phone call this morning off Nikki it does sound convincing unitil you get to the premium rate bit and then it goes downhill from there. Well Nikki or whoever you are we will hunt you down until there is nowhere left to run….NOWHERE hahahaha(Evil Laugh)!!!!!

  12. Jamie Jamie

  14. Lee Nicholson Lee Nicholson

A twist on the ‘Nicky Fisher’ call just had a message from her and when I did 1471 i got this number 07974158569. Do you think it could be a genuine number or an even more expensive mobile premium rate. Anyone recognise it? If its her phone we can all ring it constantly day and night!!! somehow think it won’t be!

  15. Wendy Wendy

Hi all, my boyfriend received one of these Nicky Fisher calls yesterday – but being the computer nut he is he checked out the web to find Jackpot promotions, and here we are.

I have to ask a couple of questions… All those people who spent the £6-10 on ringing the premium number, but then won’t spend 20pence on a stamp – why? What made you think is was a scam at that stage, and not when you were asked to ring a premium number? When companies offer these sort of prize draws, they have to legally include one of each prize in the draw – why not spend that extra tiny amount to see if you get lucky, as you’ve already spent the expensive phone bit? And you may be one of those people that can actually take a holiday at a moment’s notice – surely that’s worth a try?

I’m not saying it’s not a scam, I’m just saying that when you’ve spent the first bit of money, why aren’t you taking it to the next stage which costs hardly anything more? Has anyone actually completed an envelope and got the reply?

Secondly, for those of you on TPS – not all companies have to buy their lists from professional companies, who have to follow the TPS lists. Lists of telephone numbers are available by other sources, such as the internet and CDs. True, it’s a bit sneaky getting ex-directory – that one may be illegal, but normal telephone numbers are easily available.

Finally – these sort of scams have been going on for 5 years minimum, how come so many people are still not suspicious?

Sorry if this is not popular, but I have to ask! And sorry the replies are already posted, it’s a very long forum!

  16. Tom Watt Tom Watt

Yeah, the “Nicky Fisher” call is obviously alive and well. The premium rate number I was told to call was 0906 1119000.
I’ll add my Tuppence worth just so there’s a record of the number of people bothered. It’d be interesting to statistically work out the number of calls this autodialer is making based on how many people have found this page after getting the call. Also a worrying evolution on the spam call – one that only works if you DON’T pick up.

I’ll pop my complaint in to ICSTIS and add a link to this thread for them to peruse. I’m sure I’m not the first to do that but I didn’t have an evening free to read all of the above. ;o)

  17. Matt File Matt File

Hi, I got the call from Nikki Fisher. I rang the number given and was sent £15,000 in crisp £20 notes by special delivery the very next day !!

Nooooooooooooo not really !!! I delined her kind invitation !! Thanks to all you guys who have removed the nagging doubt that Nikki might be making a genuine offer. And thanks for the info on the TPS, even if it doesn’t work all of the time.

    …. Matt

  18. Bill F Bill F

Just been through the same rigmarole as every one else. The number I dialed is 09061100088. Forunately I only listened for 30secs. This scan has been going on for at least a year. What are ICSTIS doing about it. Anyone had any feed back??

  19. Wallport Wallport

Got the call from infamous Nikki at 15:35 today quoting 0906 110 0088 £1.50/min 5 mins 50 seconds call duration. What I don’t like about this (well actually I don’t like anything about this but…) is the fact that the machine was personalised to our name. I have complained to ICSTIS and registered with TPS as a result.

I think this is the second call, my young son took the first.

  20. Tracie Tracie

Nikki Fisher rang me this afternoon at 15:46 (only 11 mins after the previous msg!). I was out so she left a message on my answerphone. It sounded convincing but then leaving an ext no. (x4344) but only a premium rate claims no. sounded suspicious (0906 1100088). I searched the web and found this site. THANKS!

  21. red erin red erin

Recieved the same nicky FISHER call today,
fortunatly I didn’t take the BAIT, but it’s not surprising that so many people do as it does sound genuine.

  22. Julie Julie

Received the Nicky Fisher (ext 4344) message today re: 42″ plasma screen TV etc, etc, via 1571. The number to call was the 0906 111 9000 number again.
Being suspicious of Premium rate calls I came up with this site. Thanks to everyone for confirming my suspicions – I didn’t bother ringing!

  23. Jason S Jason S

    I’ve been Nicky Fisher’d this morning…
you’ve won blah blah blah.. call 0906 1119000 Nicky is on ext 4344. Thanks very much for the posts guys, saved me 5min50sec at £1.50 min 🙂

  24. moomincat moomincat

nicky phoned me about ten minutes ago. i enter lots of competitions, so it was only when she got to “..or a cruise in the bahamas” that I twigged this was far too good to be true…then she started on about the premium rate line and i hung up…

  25. Joe Joe

The latest phone number for the infamous Nicky Fisher is: 0906 1100088 with an address of PO Box 2087 Wrexham LL11 4ZQ. So just for the record has anyone actually sent an SAE to the address to see what happens?

  26. Mark Deverill Mark Deverill

I received the call from Nicky Fisher last week and again twice today! Thanks to you all for posting the reports above. my number is not listed on the TPS but I’m thanksful for your confirmations of the scam. We couldnt imaging that it would be genuine. good luck to you all who are chasing Ms Fisher.

  27. Margaret Margaret

I was Nicky Fishered last week.
At an incredibly low point in my life I fell for it and phoned. 09061119000. I got all the spiel about “a 42′ Plasma TV” etc. Then, you can guess – i won the cruise.
Well having spent my £1.50 a minute on the phone call I decided 2 stamps and envelopes were chicken feed, so my next question is “Has anyone received a reply?”.
I doubt it but I will be persuing it if I hear nothing. Can we all take them to court for our £10 phone calls. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have the big boys pay back the little people – in person. grovelling etc…………
    How about it ?

  28. Simon Simon

My word that Nicki girl has been very busy, and so much to give away as well with all of us “lucky” winners ;-). Just how does she get the time to make all of these calls each day ? BT must be loving the revenue for the calls “she’s” making in the first place !

Have just left a complaint on the ICTIS website (correct address http://www.ICTIS.ORG – no .uk at the end).

She’s left us a message today and tried a couple of days earlier, when the kids answered the call. Fortunately they were sensible to call out to one of us in the house. They hung up (well trained !).

The annoyance of answering these calls, hanging up and then finding its still droning on when you try 1471 can be overcome. The best way we’ve found is to press a random sequence of number keys on the telephone. The tones appear to upset the software of the automated system, making it hang up. Small satisfaction, but some solace.

This should be a good programme once the Beeb finish their investigations, lots of people on here as sources confirming what this busy lady has been up to.

And has been said before, thought it was too good to be true. Tried the business name and telephone number and landed here. Well done Google ! The question is, how can we make sure more people become aware of this scam ? Not everyone is lucky enough to have the web to check for this type scam.

  29. GDW GDW

I too have received this message from the infamous Ms Fisher – in fact I received it twice within one week. The fact that it’s a recording with her pausing and umming and ahhing in the same places, as well as the lack of a ‘real’ phone number and the fact I didn’t even enter any competitions kinda gave the game away 😉

Luckily I didn’t fall for it, and then found this site, so Nikki Fisher and Jackpot Promotions won’t be getting any of my money 🙂

THE SCAM IS BEING OPERATED BY HEAVEN COMMUNICATION, 81 THE QUAYS, CONCORDIA ST, LEEDS.
TEL 0113 383 0412. THEY WILL NOT SAY THE NAME OF THEIR CO. WHEN ANSWERING THE PHONE AS THEY KNOW THEY ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE SOURCE OF THIS INFORMATION IS OFFCOM TEL 0845 4563000.

  31. mr. nice guy mr. nice guy

here is some usefull information and if you live in the LEEDS area please do something positive. the company who are operating the service and of course are part of this scam are called HEAVEN COMMUNICATION tel 0113 383 0412 but they will not answer by saying the co. name as they know they are under investigation. 81 THE QUAYS, CONCORDIA STREET, LEEDS, LS1 4SE. is where you will find these dirty scumbags. this information was passed to me by those nice people at OFFCOM tel 0845 4563000. the mobile no. that appears on an earlier entry is owned by a major car co. in the north east and at this stage no link can be established. it is now up to you. best of luck and please think of my 77 year old mum who is confined to her flat when you visit and who thought she could repay her grandchildren for all the help they give. mr. nice guy.

    Hi:

We just had the (in)famous message from Nicky Fischer at Jackpot Promotions. VERY convincing-we were tempted but my Lancashire blood (you don’t get ought for nought) overode my greed!

Just to recap: we entered a competition last year and are lucky to have won a major prize (42″ plasma telly, VW, Caribean holiday etc). Asked to call her (ext 4344 but no main number or call the claim line.

    Avoid like the plaugue!

So glad we did the Google search.

  33. Almost Scammed Almost Scammed

I never fall for things like this but today Nicky Fisher almost had me. The message although recorded on 1571 sounded very real and i almost believed it but then i checked the web and thanks to you guys saved a tenner!! Ta Folks!!

  34. simon wright simon wright

scammed as well by niki fisher, x4344 tel 09061119000 and pay £1.5 per min.
you won,t win a 42″ TV ,or anything else

If you are scammed like me contact offcom
    on 0845 4563000.
    also ICSTIS.
    The law must be changed!

  35. Jason Jason

She’s still at it, Nikkie rand me with details about Jackpot promotions and the prize I have won. I am interested if anybody has had feedback from ICSTIS yet from the complaints. Being suspicious I checked here first and have to wonder how a company running a scam this long could not be dealt with by now.

  36. mr.nice guy mr.nice guy

the laws covering this type of fraud are there but hard to get icstis interested as they have a workload that means this sort of thing will get overlooked for a long time. the details i posted before are correct. it will take six months at the least to prosecute them, and then they will continue under a different name and set of premium rate lines. please pop alomg to their leeds office and “discuss”.

  37. John John

I just had the same message from Nicky Fisher, Jackpot promotions, decided to check it out before ringing the same number. Which I now of course won’t. Outrageous they’ve been doing it for this long.

  38. andy andy

If anyone knows how to find the cunt responsible for jackpot promotions i will kill them and burn the faces off on the behalf of all the people disturbed by this phone abuse.

  39. bong bong

what a joke!! I have been called by this co. 5 times in 2 days, I’m guessing by all these posts that some ‘official’organisation has been notified – and what have they done about it…bugger all!! The first message was what September 2003 (and thats just on this web page!). Really really really p#*!£$d off. I’ve just contacted watchdog about it!! Everyone do the same!!! Right I’m off to Leeds to break some legs…anyone fancy it?!

  40. Jayne Jayne

Just thought id let you no nicky fisher duped me today,Saying id won a big prize from jackpot promotions, Stupid me phoned the number, left on my answer phone(09061119000)and after going through the automated service was told i had won a trip to the bahamas and to send a large sae to jackpot promotions po box 2087 Wrexham LL11 4ZQ quoting prize claim number BH1104. Thankfully i found this site and saved myself 56p in stamps although its probaly cost me a tenner with the phone call.

  41. Sue Sue

Had Nicky Fisher call, Tuesday 29 June 04. Same detailed info about prize on answer machine. Made mistake of ringing premium rate line at rip off cost! Sadly, I’ve posted details requested along with S.A.E. Wish I’d checked info on net first…! People have families and dreams. Never mind, I’m a great believer in karma. They’ll get theres, I’m sure of that.

  42. Dave Dave

Hmm, it looks like Ms Fisher has been doing this for a long time… And what’s more is that she phones every night and leaves the same message. I’m glad I checked on the net before phoning. Oh, and someone a long way up there ^^ asked if anyone not on the TPS list had been phoned; I can say that sadly I am not on that list and I get phoned every night.

  43. Dr John Dr John

I too have had a 2 calls from Nicky Fisher – looking on this website – if the address is true and the post code is infact LL11 4ZQ then the address is either Ruthin Road or Nant Road in Bwlchgwyn in North Wales – just so everyone knows ;O) maybe we should all go there and claim our prizes?? its so annoying getting these calls

  44. mr.nice guy mr.nice guy

well done dr.john (or should i say “mac”)
you are quite right. the net is now closing in.
with an office adrs i gave this page in leeds and now one of just 2 roads the scum behind this will be ……….RIGHT PLACE WRONG TIME……hope you get my drift.

  45. Dr John Dr John

Ok Ive also tried calling the 01273 number that some people have reported getting when they use their caller id as mentioned here

“Had the same call from Jackpot Promotions as above. Totally suspicious about premium rate 0906 numbers so typed it into google and ended up here. I pay for caller display and the number that came up several times this evening was 01273 861500. Whether it was them or not is another question but that person was certainly persistant today having rung at least 6 or 7 times. Will report this to ICSTIS as suggested above. Thanks to everyone for the info”

When I called it I got a recorded voice message saying “you were recenlty called by domestic and general services limited, on behalf of sky regarding a sky repair protection plan for your sky digital sattelite system”

as for the 0207 number (0207 0314614) that some people got on their caller ids – thats always engaged

  46. I pitty da fool I pitty da fool

ive had a thought – wink wink. Nicki gives an extension of 4344, and the number that shows as calling is 0207 0314614 – so its only the last 3 digits that are wrong – possible if Nicki is working from an office block in London she’ll be working from that number?? anyone seeing my point? ;O)

  47. Mr P Mr P

has anyone here contacted the 0113 383 0412 Leeds telephone number?

I have. Spoke to some guy there who said he was Jackpot Promotions. I mentioned I had been called by Nikki Fisher. He was eager to send me details of my “free” holiday to the Bahamas. I didnt give him my real name & address of course. I dont want any junk mail or “visits” from dodgy people at my house.

Would be interested to hear any stories of other ppl who called the number.

  48. mr.nice guy mr.nice guy

the 0207 no. you refer to is operated by COLT COMMUNICATIONS tel 0207 390 3900. i would assume that this is the no. that the recording is being made from as it is perm. engaged. no ringback service available. as the plot thickens we are getting closer and closer. and another thing…that no. is OUT GOING CALLS ONLY. if i were a gambling man i would say it is attatched to a machine systematically dialling out 24 hrs a day. come on colt…pull the plug.

  49. Del Del

I too was “Nicky Fishered” this afternoon. Called up like a mug and decided to look into Jackpot Promotions AFTER i called…..now the phone bill is 7 quid heavier. Having entered a few comps last year i stupidly thought ooooh I’ve won. MUG!!!!
Hope Nicky goes for a nice cruise……..SS Titanic maybe.

    Del

PS Must be some size of cruise ship for us all to go !!!! PEACE!!!!

  50. Brian Brian

Today I have been “Nicky Fishered” at 17:12.
The message started with “Hi this is Nicky Fisher on extension 4344” bla bla bla. won a car etc. phone 0906 1118080 calls cost £1.50pm and will last no longer than 5mins 50sec.
