Guess That Movie: XXVII: Boogie Nights

[Guess That Movie Round 27]Oooh – looks like two prizes may be awarded at this rate! Kymberlie managed to gain an extra 100 points by recognising Guess That Movie 26 as being taken from near the end of the Sam Neill movie The Dish [Order from Amazon.co.uk] which has put her at the 480 points mark. The Dish is about the first landing on the Moon (the Apollo 11 and the Parkes radio telescope helped bring the images back to Earth. It’s quite a touching story – admittedly it could be compressed to a 15 minute story if you were just interested in the ‘bare facts’, but the ‘human interest’ side of it makes it worth watching in my book (after Event Horizon and the Jurassic Park series, I think Sam Neill’s beginning to get just a little bit typecast as a scientist…)

Anyway – now for the slightly delayed round 27. As you may have gathered, this one isn’t for youngsters – but then again it isn’t “R18” material either (R18 is the BBFC classification for ‘sexual movies’ here in the UK – ‘R18’ indicates that it can only be sold to those over 18 and that it is Restricted for sale in sex shops). It IS a popularish movie, and IT HAS been shown on television (I actually got a shock a few minutes ago when I saw a preview for it on one of the TV stations I get: and it wasn’t the Granada Men And Motors channel either!). In the UK it was rated ’18’ (only suitable for persons 18 years of age or older), but the MPAA in the States rated it ‘R’.

That’s the only clue you’re getting for now…Good luck and get guessing!

A: Boogie Nights [Order from Amazon.co.uk] . Correctly guessed by “Blue Neon Head”.

Guess That Movie: XXVI: The Dish

[Guess That Movie Round 26]Kymberlie’s rising in the score chart by adding an extra 95 points to her total by correcting Guessing That the Movie in round 25 was Not Another Teen Movie. She’s just 120 points away from the “500 prize point” – but will anybody guess that movie before her and steel away her points?

Now let’s move on to Guess That Movie Round 26 (that’s XXVI in roman numerals by the way) – here’s a screenshot taken from near the end of a film whose main actor (or actress) was also a main/major actor in one of the previous Guess That Movie featured films. Which round it was or who the actor is, I’m not mentioning: but they are shown in this screenshot! Shame it’s their silhouette!

A: The Dish. [Order from Amazon.co.uk] . Correctly guessed by Kymberlie R. McGuire

Guess That Movie: XXV: Not Another Teen Movie

[Guess That Movie Round 25]Kymberlie managed to Guess her way to another 60 points (which puts her in third place now: but only by 5 points) by correctly recognising Guess That Movie 24 as being taken from the movie Coyote Ugly [Order from Amazon.co.uk] . The screen shot(s) were taken from the scene where Violet (Piper Perabo) thinks that Kevin (Adam Garcia) is a night club manager and tries to give him her tape of music. The people in the screen shot are Kevin’s friends who just hang in the background.

Ok, on to round 25. At the end of round 18 I did, in fact, spend around 4 hours watching movies and taking screen shots for Guess That Movie to try and speed up the “turn around” (instead of find movie, play movie, find good scene, take screen shot, upload screen shot, write text it was going to be: upload screen shot and text) after an image has been guessed – but I seemed to have made the last few a little bit too hard to guess. Kymberlie was the only person will to even hazard a guess at Coyote Ugly (and she was correct!) and that took her just over 3 days. So, I think it’s time for a slightly easier one now.

Take a look at this pig of a picture, it’s not another hard movie so it should be easy to guess – and once you think you know which movie it is, just enter your guess and go for the prize(s)! I’ve decided I’m going to give EVERYBODY that gets over 500 points by the end of round 29 a prize. The larger the score, the better the prize. How generous am I? (of course, donations to the prize pool are more than welcome – text advert purchasing is also available: 250impressions minimum buy: at a cost of just $2.50 for a thousand!). Hopefully by the round 30, I’ll have the new site up and running – whether I’ll be able to transfer over the scores is another matter… Don’t worry if you are a new player: if you are able to guess the next 5 movies correctly (without anybody incorrectly guessing) – each within 12 hours of them being posted, you’ll get a prize!

Guess That Movie: XXIV: Coyote Ugly

[Guess That Movie round 24]Kymberlie managed to pick up another 50 points for correctly recognising the previous Guess That Movie image as being taken from the 2001 movie Birthday Girl. Starring Nicole Kidman (who’s been in the UK news recently) as a “mail order Russian bride” called Sophia and Ben Chaplin as her purchaser John (it’s his crotch and jumper you saw in the screen shot) it’s a little comedy romance with the taglines “Before They Share A Future, They Have To Survive Her Past” and “Somebody’s In For A Big Surprise”.

Even though Kymberlie R. McGuire has assistance from her co-worker (yep, you are allowed to get people to help you – but don’t blame me if they start guessing the movie behind your back), she only picked up an additional 50 points (as it had been over 2 days since the image had been posted – taking the value down by 30 points, and there had been 4 incorrect guesses before hers – taking it down by another 20). She just needs another 60 points to move into third place ahead of “Super Beastmaster” (another 275 points and she can claim a prize!).

Anyway, take a look at this image: I’ll tell you know, I won’t be able to give you this characters name as she’s just a minor figure in the film in question and I don’t think she speaks at all. But surly you can recognise her not so ugly face? (and that wasn’t just me finding a different way of saying “pretty” or “beautiful” it was, in fact, a clue!). Just leave a comment with your name, email address and your guess and I’ll let you know if you are right or wrong.

Now, I’ve just got to get back to sleep – I want breakfast in the morning, but I don’t want to stay up past 3 in the morning to have it.

Guess That Movie: XXIII: Birthday Girl

[Guess That Movie Round 23]After 5 incorrect guesses, LD correctly recognised Guess That Movie 22 as being taken from the 1997 movie Air Force One [Order from Amazon.co.uk] . It showed Dean Stockwell as “Defence Secretary Walter Dean” – the clue I gave out (if you didn’t recognise him from the photo) was the corrupted introduction to Quantum Leap [Order from Amazon.co.uk] (in which I know him as “Al” the hologram). I should have realised that he was a distinguished actor and had been in many other movies other than Air Force One (126 movies/TV programmes according to his IMDb profile.

I’ve now updated the high score tables and whilst the last two rounds have made a little difference, there’s been no change in the rankings. It’s still Ph33r_m3 followed by LD (now on 445 points), then “Super Beastmaster” and then Kymberlie R. McGuire (who only managed to gain an extra 55 points with the rather difficult round 21: The Cure).

Anyway, here’s round 23 (already? *shocked*) of Guess That Movie. Which movie is this image taken from then?

A: Birthday Girl. Correctly guessed by Kymberlie R. McGuire
