Personal: Car Alarm

[Car Alarm]S–ds law! I was fast asleep (after spending most of the evening getting myself in a ‘sleepy mood’) and then the car alarm off a car over the street goes off and wakes me up at 3.40 in the d—n morning! It goes off, resets, goes off again, resets – *grr*. It’s just impossible to sleep when it’s over the road from you.

I think the owners of the car have now finally shut the thing off – but I was getting so annoyed, irritated and angry at it I thought of actually getting my dressing gown on, going over to the car and give it something to be alarmed about (thinking brick through the window sort of thing)…

Huh, as I was typing this – a police car has just drawn up outside – obviously come to investigate a complaint made by someone else. The owner of the car has now come out to inspect it with the two police officers, but it doesn’t look like there’s been any damage whatsoever made to the car.

A second police car has now arrived, but by looks of things one of the original officers told them there was no need for them. They’ve (the two police officers and the car owner) have now gone into the house so it looks like things might be quieting down now (the alarm is off, but looking at the car I can see the red flashing ‘alarm armed’ light inside) so I’m going to try and get back to sleep – my alarm is due to go off at 7.30am (in two and a half hours time)…

Personal: Night night nightmares.

[Freddie Kruger]Well, it’s ten to four in the morning and I really need to get to sleep (hence whilst a picture/image/icon won’t be added to this post for a few hours). So I’m going to lay in bed and watch Hackers again (I haven’t seen that movie for a few months now). I just hope that I don’t have that damn strange re-occurring nightmare again. I think it’s been started by watching “Troll” again, but I’m not sure – all I know is, if I can only remember a bit more about it when I wake up, it’ll make one hell of a horror movie. In a way – I kinda hope I do have the dream/nightmare again, at least I’ll figure out WTF a caravan has to do with it… (unless the caravan is in connection with the movie “Critters” because the Sheriff lived in one)… Blarg – this site isn’t called “Richy’s Random Ramblings” for nothing you know 🙂

What’s your opinion on dreams and nightmares? Are they premonitions (if so, heeelllpppp!), just pure fiction or a mixture?

Personal: 2nd job offer

[Bus]Typical! I wait several months for a job role and two come along at once (just like buses). Yep, today I was kinda offered another post. This is a job which the agency (Computer Futures) originally called me about mid-December and said they had a potential position for me. They called me back twice last week to see if I was still available and to arrange a telephone interview for me today.

At 9am, Karl (of CF) called me to confirm the telephone chat – and I had to inform him that I had been offered a position that I was more than happy with (good role, good salary, good location and, by looks of things, a ‘good team’) and that I, unfortunately, was no longer interested. After much persuading, Karl managed to get me to agree to do the interview (partly due to me feeling guilty about the fact that he had spent so long chasing this vacancy) with the dangling carrot of a potential salary of twice what I had agreed to with my new job.

Personal: New Job!

[Tigger and Zebedee]After several months of being unemployed, I’ve now been offered a job and I start on Monday! Yipee! (bouncy bouncy Richy).

I’m going to be working for a local web design and SEO (search engine optimisation) company doing a whole variety of work – and by looks of things I’m going to really enjoy working for them. I’m getting paid 3/4 of what I was previously on, but as this new place is less than 2 miles away I won’t be spending a quarter of my wages on transport – hence it all nicely works out. So, I’m doing what I love doing for a local (financial stable and growing) company for a decent wage – just perfect. And it came at “just the right time” as well, my bank balance is currently, erm, “running on fumes” and whilst I did receive a payment this morning from my “other web activities” which just pushed my bank balance back into the black – I couldn’t survive much longer. Now, at the end of last year, I was unemployed, Ciaran was unemployed, my GESF and her flatmate were unemployed – and now, 9 days into the New Year, and we’ve all got jobs. Things are looking up! 🙂

Personal: Food, History and Firth

[Colin Firth, A Pizza and a twin-tub washing machine]Well, I managed to make my pizzas – I nipped down to my local shop to grab some cheese (I could have sworn I had some left, but oh well) – Cheddar cheese instead of mozzarella, but still 🙂 I made a quite nice Hawaiian (Ham and Pineapple) and one with sweetcorn and pineapple and they were quite filling and quite good quality – nearly up to “commercial levels” (yep, I used to work in a Pizzeria and I know how that multi-national chain prepares their pizzas). One thing that did occur to me whilst cooking them: making your own pizzas isn’t really cost effective. The two “Thin’n’Crispy” pizza bases were 75p (for them both), then I had the cheese (which worked out at around 75p for the cheese I used on the pizzas), then the can of pineapple chunks (69p), ham (used half the packet – 50p), sweetcorn (half the can – 17p): total cost for two pizzas: £2.86: Tesco are selling two Thin Crust Hawaiian pizzas (410g each) for £3.00 – just 14p more…

In other news, it seems Friday’s blogging about Tomorrow’s World has made the “mainstream news” – the “end of an era” was featured in Saturday’s “Daily Mail” newspaper and today’s Slashdot. “Richy’s Random Ramblings – Current Event News and not many flibblepenguins!”.
