Blogging: totalxsive’s Blog

Neil, aka fellow dmoz editor totalxsive has linked to me here in his own blog!

🙂

And, yep, I’ve met Neil (and, believe me, that isn’t an experience I’m likely to forget!) – but I’m not sure about what he means by “he posts so many comments”. I’m only posting around 5 a day, just because I’ve got a lot to say on various subjects (mainly about spam at the moment unfortently 🙁 ), doesn’t make me a bad person does it? 🙂

Cheers Neil!

Search: The Mozzie Awards – The Winners Are…

Well, voting has now closed in the ODP “Mozzie awards November 2002”, and I must say I’m disappointed. I didn’t win! *sob*. In the category of ‘Best Editall’, I came a lowly joint 15th with 2.4% of the vote (6 votes). 15th out of 35 isn’t too bad is it?
A final rallying by myself in the dying hours of the polls (with oblique references to The Prisoner in the form of “If Number 2 is runner-up then who is Number 1? is Number 6” and “Vote for me (in Best Editall and/or Best Ambassador)! A vote for me is a vote for variety!” helped increase my standing in the ‘Best Ambassador’ poll to joint 10th position with 9 votes (5.1% of all votes cast went to me). Question is – is 10th out of 17 better or worse than 15th out of 35?

Never mind, it was a hell of a lot of fun and I’m going to try even harder next time (I’ve gotta win one of these days – and if it wasn’t for those pesky newbies I would have gotten away with it). Congratulations all those who took part, many thanks to all those that voted, commiserations to those who didn’t win, thanks to all the ‘non-nominated editors’ which help make ODP the place it is and to the winners – “I’ll get you next time….”

Search: Mozzies – 24hrs left to go

Well, I’m currently joint 17th in the category of ‘Best Editall’ (with 5 votes: 2%) and joint 11th in ‘Best Ambassador’ category (with 8 votes: 4.8%) of the ‘November 2002 ODP Mozzie Awards’: and with less than 24hrs left of voting to go, it doesn’t look like I’m going to win either category. Drat. But first time I’ve really been nominated, so I suppose I shouldn’t hope for too much 🙂

It’s now 8.58am, and just about time I thought about going to sleep!

Search: ODP stats update

I feel just like keeping a quick record of how I’m editing in the ODP (mainly as I’m just trying to get a little distraction from the many many lines of PHP code that’s before my eyes). According to the current statistics, I’ve made 5,507 unique adds to the ODP, deleted 2,924 sites and moved 96 sites to unreviewed: making a total count of 11,108 modifications (spelling corrections, description changes, URL updates etc are included in that final number: that’s why it doesn’t add up correctly). Of course, sometimes moving a site counts as a delete+add, just moving sites from one unreviewed queue to another doesn’t count at all, and “spambusting” unreviewed queues aren’t recorded in my edit stats either (considering I’ve deleted over 500 spam submissions in one category before – it’ll be a big big number anyway 🙂 ). Over at Chefmoz, I’ve only made 43 modifications which have mainly consisted of 19 unique adds to the Leicester category. Oh, I’ve also got 255 posts over at Resource-Zone.
