Blogging: New Look – Implemented

Well, the redesign to Richy’s Random Ramblings is now up and active! What do you think?

Apart from the CSS and HTML changes (including making the content come before the HTML and getting the CSS and HTML to validate), I’ve also made a number of back end changes so the system should “slide” onto the new server without problems (there’s a change of directory structure from “Richy’s Personal Preference” to “Cpanel’s enforced Preference”: and it’s a lot easier for me to work around Cpanel then vice versa).

I’ve only updated the index template and the individual entry templates so far: all the category/archive ones are currently corrupted until I get around to them – but let me know if you spot any problems so I can address them now (leaving details of which browser you are using is helpful as well!).

Hmm …. it’s all black and white for me (MozillaFirebird 0.6ish. Not sure on the version #, and it looks like MF is about to die out anyways). Not what the screenshot shows. Then again, is it supposed to be black and white? :/

  2. Nope – it is meant to be colourish. (at least the home page and the individual entries are).

I’ve tested with IE 6.0 and Mozilla 1.4 (Gecko/20030624), validated with the W3C HTML and CSS validator…Hmm, I’m not sure why you are getting a monochrome image – I’ll have to keep on testing. Cheers for the heads up Kim!

  3. Hmm, that’s “interesting”. When opening an individual blog entry, Internet Explorer is “blanking” some of the actually entry (grey text on grey background type scenerio) until either the screen scrolls or the text is highlighted.

Anyway know a) why this is happening and/or b) a way around it?

Yeah the blanking is happening to me n all… :s

  6. Ok, I’ve been playing with the templates and the problem with blanking in Internet Explorer seems to have disappeared. I’m still no wiser off as to why, exactly, it was failing – but at least it works now (apparently!)
