Guess That Movie: LIX: Universal Soldier

Guess that Movie 59Sorry for the long hiatus – this reason for this will be explained shortly – but here’s the long awaited “Guess That Movie” round 59…

Who won round 58 I hear you cry? Well, it wasn’t until over 2 weeks after I posted the image did Chthonius recognise it was from “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut” (the “Kenny goes to hell” scene: it’s one of Satan’s minions pictured) – ok, Brandon got in slightly earlier but he/she made many guesses so only the first counts.

Anyway, here’s the new picture and a refresher of the rules:

Just leave a comment with your name/alias, email address (for the prize givings) and the name of the movie you think this screen shot is taken from. If you guess that movie correctly, I’ll award you some points. Points start at 100 per image and decline over time (after the first 12 hours it goes down by 10 points, then down a further 10 points every 24hours after posting) – oh and wrong guesses have a 5 point penalty. But what good are points? Well, get 500 points and you can claim a £5 Amazon gift voucher/certificate for the Amazon store of your choice (£5 will be converted into the appropriate currency at the exchange rates displayed on xe.net at the time of claim) – so you can get free books, movies and music just by playing a simple FREE guessing game!

A: Universal Soldier. Correctly guessed by Jay.

Techy: No ADSL access

Well, it looks like my internet activities will be restricted until tomorrow morning. Why? Well, since 1.30pm today I’ve been unable to use my main ADSL connection and had to resort to 56k dialup via my backup ISP supplier (actually myself: I can’t actually sell ADSL access myself only standard dialup, but I need ADSL access… don’t ask: it’s complicated!). However, my ADSL supplier has just made the following announcement (my amendments are in italic):

ADSL customers on pipe anchor-r26a (that includes myself) are reporting routing difficulties. Web sites may be slow or unavailable (routing issues actually affect web, email, SSH, FTP etc access and it’s so bad I can’t even “finger” or “ping” one of the ISPs main routers). Another licensed operator (actually BT: I believe for legal reasons my ISP have got to refer to BT Wholesale – who provide the ADSL links from the exchange – as “another licensed operator”) has identified the cause and, as a result, shall be completing emergency maintenance at midnight tonight to rectify the problem (i.e. I’m stuck on dialup access until gone midnight)

Bummer. Especially with an update to Guess That Movie being due, “end of month” statistics due for update (yep, it’s the first of June) AND I’m having to redownload Apple Quicktime. Not fun 🙁

Snippet: Double Points on Guess That Movie

Guess That Movie 58Wow! Nobody managed to guess the current Guess That Movie image so for the next 48 hours I’m going to be awarding a massive 200 points to the first person to correctly recognise the screenshot.

It is NOT from:

  • Mad Max Beyond The Thunderdrome (or any of the Mad Max series)
  • Poltergeist (or any of its sequels)
  • Small Soldiers
  • Osmosis Jones (I’ve never heard of this film anyway!)
  • Spy Kids 2 (it’s not Spy Kids 1 either)

Ok: additional clues:

  • It’s a spin off of a TV series
  • There is some allegedly Latin spoken in this movie, but it isn’t real Latin
  • Liza Minelli, Brooke Shields, Barbra Streisand and Winona Ryder were NOT in this movie
  • The scene in the movie where this screen shot was taken from doesn’t really “look like” the rest of the movie

Have fun and have a guess!
