Net: Supermodels May Be Lonely

[Cindy Crawford Supermodel]Now, I thought I had a strange blog until I read this one. Supermodels are lonelier than you think has plenty of posts of supermodels (in some strange and near-Adult orientated poses) and some interesting details. Everything from Gucci‘s latest advertising and how the company has issued a press warning as they are only making around $54.3million per quarter (only?!?), to Friends actress Jennifer Aniston using toupee tape to secure her breasts inside a garment (yep, that is how they avoid ‘exposing’ more flesh then they want – they actually sticky tape their breasts to the clothes), to a picture that, initially, looks like a man is performing a sexual act on a woman – but is, in fact, just kissing her pregnant stomach.

I was actually tempted to put it on my Blogroll, but I don’t think it’ll be a blog that a read on a daily basis (more like once a week for a strange, often funny, in-sight to the modelling world). As for the title of that blog, well, are supermodels really that lonely? You never see them “out and about” on their own do you – or is that just the media perception again? (So-and-so is still single: not news, So-and-So seen with Mr/Miss/Mrs.X: could be a potential romance therefore it’s news). After all, if they were that lonely – that site would have a “Sign up here to go out with Supermodel X” wouldn’t it? 🙂

Slightly off-topic: Did you know that in September last year I received a telephone call asking if I was available for a model photo shoot? Yep, I was (and, if it was a wrong number they still knew my name). Alas, they didn’t call me back the following week – but it still got me wondering where they got my details. It could have been from a radio company, newspaper/magazine, the internet or a television company, but I guess I’ll never know (unless, of course, I call them back: I did store the number they dialled from on my mobile and confirmed they are a legit company so…). I can’t see myself being a model anyway – I haven’t got the breasts for it…

Fun: Colour Vision Eye test

[Eye Test]How long has it been since you had your colour vision (color vision) tested?

I haven’t had mine tested for around 10 years (when I discovered I was slightly red/green colour blind), so I was quite grateful for Wannabe Girl to post this link to Test Your Color Vision. I thought I was doing reasonable alright on the 6 plates, but when my results came up they nearly had me falling off my chair in shock! 🙁

How good or bad were your results? Did they have you horrify you as well?

Fun: Speed Stacking

[Emily Fox]Wow is all I could say when I saw this video. Basically Emily Fox is a 15/16 year old student who can “speed stack” and unstack cups in the format 3-6-3 (3 cups on either side a 6 cup pyramid) in 2.72 seconds and can do a “cycle stack” (of 3-6-3 followed by a 1-10-1 pyramid followed by a 3-6-3 “down stack”) in 7.43 seconds (that’s a world record).

Just look at her hands go! I’ve watched the video and worked out that she touched each of the 12 cups 6 times – that means she was placing a cup every tenth of a second. Ok, she used both hands – but that still means changing cups every one fifth of a second.

Fun: Harry Potter And The Naked Quidditch Game

Ok, ok, I still haven’t got round to doing my review of the film of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets yet (I think I’ll have to watch it yet again to refresh my memory), but in the mean time – he’s a few things about HP that I’ve found on this ‘er internet type thing:

Thanks to Christine’s blog entry, I was laughing for nearly half-an-hour at the Naked Quidditch Match (written by Anya). Basically, it’s a series of emails (or, rather MMails: Magical Mails) sent between residents and non-residents of Hogwarts about an upcoming Quidditch game where the Gryffindor team have to play “in the buff”. Of course, a certain enterprising individual thinks it’ll be a good time to start the Unofficial Harry Potter Fan Club and the “Harry Potter Nude 2002 Calendar”…

If you can’t understand some of the terminology (or you are wondering what, exactly, Quidditch is), then you may find the Harry Potter Lexicon handy.

Oh, and before you start thinking “it’s all fiction” – it isn’t. The now grown up Harry Potter was kind enough to give an interview to E! Online last month.

[Update:05:47am]
It seems even Jakob Nielsen has got on the Harry Potter bandwagon – his latest Web usability column is entitled “In the Future, We’ll All Be Harry Potter” where he compares things like the Daily Prophet (the magical newspaper with movable pictures in HP) with the Microsoft TabletPC (or, I guess, any other PDA). He also includes the following memorable quote from Arthur C. Clarke‘s book “Report On Planet Three“: “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” (there’s also a corollary to this ‘law’ which goes “Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced” – from Gregory Benford‘s “Foundation’s Fear“).

[Update:10:15am]
It seems the aforementioned Naked Quidditch Match has been made UserFriendly‘s Link Of The Day for today. Let’s just hope the folks over at Gryffindor Tower are ready for the onslaught of visitors!

Fun: Even More Lego!

[A scene from the Lego Bible]Drat! I really really thought I had already covered all the fun and weird Lego stuff on the ‘net – but obviously I was wrong. Not only have the little men built a computer, smoked illegal substances, stared in various movies, constructed some of M.C.Escher’s pictures, but they’ve also:

Oh, there’s also a collection of various Brickshelf pictures out there as well (the Lord Of The Rings tribute is good!). Don’t forget, if you want to start building you own Lego models (maybe using the LDraw format), you can order Lego via Amazon.co.uk or, if you are after specific blocks, then BrickLink could be your friend….

Now I’ll try and avoid mentioning the L— word until at least next year 🙂
