Richy's Random Ramblings

Personal: Sleep, Soccer and Storage Space

[Sleeping and dreaming about soccer]Yawn! I haven’t long woken up from a really long sleep – just about 18 hours. I haven’t slept for so long for ages, but I guess with only getting 4 hours sleep on Friday night, I needed to catch up. I was working on a new website until around 6am Saturday morning: ok, ok, it was the “Guess That Movie” website – the design is already looking quite nifty (it looks like its a framed based site, but it isn’t), the database design has been finalised and nearly all the main graphics have been designed (ok, there’s only going to be two graphics and I’ve done one of them: but 50% is nearly ‘all’ isn’t it? 🙂 ).

I must admit, however, that I did have a really funny dream. I usually have semi horror-movie, sci-fiish or, at least, “likely to happen” type dreams but last night’s was just “totally out there”.

I dreamt, that for some reason, I had instantly been selected to play in the English football (soccer) team in a very important match. And, like in real life, I wasn’t a footballer. So the match comes around and, being a defender, I managed to stop the “game deciding” goal from getting in my just running behind our goal keeper (who was just outside the box) and header-ing the ball from behind him into his hands. Since I was only playing for the one game, at the end I went back to “real life” and found myself in a pub talking about the game – several people didn’t believe the fact that “yes, I was the one that saved that goal” and so I had to get the pub manager to play the game again on the TV and at the important part I pointed out where I saved the goal and did a little celebration thingy in Richy style… They then started to believe me and buy me drinks.

The only possible thing that I can think of that might have sparked that freaky strange dream is the fact that Leicester City Football Club (“The Foxes”) somehow managed to let Wolverhampton Wanders (“Wolves” aka “The Doritos Cheesy Team”) beat them 4-1 in the fourth of the FA Cup. But considering LCFC is currently in “administration” because of previous financial difficulties, have a large number of injured players (striker Brian Deane has a fractured cheekbone and Trevor Benjamin and James Scowcroft are also unavilable due to injuries) and because of the “no player transfers whilst a club is in administration” rule have been unable to get “fresh” players – I’ll let them off these once.

Techy: Customers – Read The “Fine” Instructions

[Read Instructions]Well, that’s been fun! It’s been a strange 72 hours in the techy land of Richy – and to enable me to look back and go what the f—k (WTF), here’s just one of the incidents I’ve had to deal with…

Last week we had a customer report that he was having problems sending email – basically the mail server was rejecting his mail. This is our most frequently asked question (and it’s now had a step by step guide published on our FAQ/Knowledge base about it) and the situation is always the same – the customer has put our mail server in the SMTP (outgoing mail) settings. They need to have their ISPs mail server in this field as our servers don’t permit remote relaying of mail (also known as ‘open relays’). So I sent this customer an email saying that he needs to change his outgoing mail server to be that of his ISPs and heresponds with details of which email package he is using and which ISP dialup/ADSL/ISDN or broadband connection he is using then we’ll provide a step by step walk thru. This was sent within 6 hours of his initial query.

Guess That Movie: XIV: Dr. Strangelove

[Guess That Movie Round 14]Now I am annoyed! LD managed to increase his/her/their lead by another 100 points by recognising Mouth (played by Corey Feldman) having the jewels removed from his mouth by Mama Fratelli near the end of the 1985 children’s movie The Goonies. A movie well worth watching as it’s quite funny as the gang try and get One Eyed Willies treasure (and, no, I don’t think that is a reference to part of the male anatomy).

I think I’ve been giving away the points so easily as most of you can remember the films – so let’s go back into the mists of time for this image. And to make it extra difficult to guess, I’ve slightly photo-edited the image. Nothing too major, but hopefully enough to through you off the scent… After all, LD only needs another 120 points to be the first one to claim the prize! I’m actually so confident that this one is going to be extra difficult to guess, that I’m going to offer another 20 points if you can name the actors AND characters shown in the image capture – but if you do guess at them, you’ve also got to get the movie title right at the same time: an guess is either going to be totally correct or incorrect (so, you can guess at the name of the movie and just go for the ‘normal points’ or gamble for the extra 20 points by going for the actors and character names at the same time).

Donations to the prize fund are more than welcome by the way! 🙂

Clues:
27th Jan 00:36 – The movie is actually black and white. I manually added the color/colour to confuse.

A: Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Correctly guessed by Ph33r_m3 [Order from Amazon.co.uk]

Guess That Movie: XIII: The Goonies

[Unlucky for some - round 13 of Guess That MovieI really thought the previous image was going to be extremely hard: it was just a chopping block and part of a womans dress… But that didn’t stop Super Beastmaster from correctly recognising it as the scene in Chicken Run [Order from Amazon.co.uk] where Mrs.Tweedy is taking Edwina the chicken to be ‘executed’ near the start of the film. Of all the movies that have chopping blocks in them, how was this one so easy to guess? It was meant to be difficult!

I wonder if I’ll be as unlucky at making this image (as it’s round 13 of Guess That Movie) hard to guess. I nearly regretted my taunting of the guesses in the previous image, but lets see if you are as good as you make out! (All I know is that if the guessing continues at the rate, I’m soon going to have to pay for the prizes – donations towards the prize fund are, as always, more than welcome. I’ve just forked out for the new domain name of the new Guess That Movie website (I’ve just gotta wait for the DNS propagation to take place), then I’ve got to allocate some time to write the system to maintain the images (I’m planning on being able to mass-load images into so I once I click “correct guess” the system automatically makes the next one live: ideal for when I’m away from my home machine) then I’ve probably got to pay for the prizes… It’s becoming an expensive little game for me. And then maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to return my blog to “normal operation”…

I’m going to get some sleep now (I only got 4 hours sleep last night and I’ve just flaked out for another 4 hours and I’m still tired) so there’ll probably be a small gap between the results of this one (I’m hoping it won’t be correctly guessed for a few day), but guess away! If you could also tell why you think it’s the movie you are guessing, it’ll be interesting…

A: The Goonies. Correctly guessed by LD

Guess That Movie: XII: Chicken Run

[Guess That Movie Round Twelve]Yet another hundred points were given out a few minutes ago – this time to LD for correctly recognising (within 30 minutes) Gloria Foster playing the Oracle in The Matrix [Order from Amazon.co.uk] .

LD’s in the lead now with 280 points as compared with Ph33r_m3’s 265 and “Super Beastmaster”‘s 185 – but it could all change with this image.

Go on you clever clogs – guess this one! Leave a comment of your pathetic guess and watch me laugh at your feeble attempts to guess that movie…

(Why do I get the feeling I’m going to be regretting saying that?)

A: Chicken Run. Correctly guessed by Super Beastmaster.
