Richy's Random Ramblings

Personal: Happy 25th Birthday Me!

Happy
25th
Birthday Richy!

Yeah, I know – I’m getting old (a quarter of a century!). Just wish I could remember why I bothered setting my phone to remind me it’s my birthday today – perhaps I thought that at this point my whatchamecallit thingybob would be so bad that I’d whizbangedthingy it’s my birthday today (the 15th of June).

Happy Birthday Richy!
Happy Birthday? How old am I?
25 sir!
Ooh, that’s terrible. Only yesterday I was 24, today I’m 25, by the end of the week I’ll be in my thirties. At least I’ve got all my marbles…Ah, don’t you just love the green ones

(with apologies to Spitting Image and the late great Ronald “Do the Ron” Regan)

Games: Grow

GrowOk, by looks of things in Grow from Eyezmaze you are meant to “grow” your own little planet by adding certain items in a certain order so they trigger events…

Easy? Except you’ve got to work out the order that things trigger other things and if you don’t have an item at a certain level then things go wrong… I’ve managed to get a score of 12,300 (that’s everything at ‘Max Level’ apart from the ladder – level 1 – and the cube – level 9). Can anybody do better?

A few clues follow:

Techy: Really cheap International Calls

Ok – now phone prices are getting silly. Using a service I found two days ago called Telediscount, my parents can call me when I’m in holiday in Japan at a cheaper rate (1p per minute) than when I’m only 12miles away from them in the UK (around 2-5p per minute.

It was bad enough that I can now could call the States for 10p per minute via Komtel, but with Telediscount – 1p per minute?!?

Somebody please explain to me how it can be cheaper to make a transatlantic international phone call than it is to call the house next door? (NTL charge me a minimum of 1p per minute off peak, 2p on peak for local calls – US calls via Telediscount’s 0844 8 610 610 number are 1p per minute at ALL times!). And, no, you don’t need to “sign up” to telediscount or anything – just start calling.

Scary innit!

Oh – it gets better, using their 0911 50 101 50 “Premium rate” number (15p per minute) – I can call UK mobile numbers at, I believe, less then the rate the mobile phone operators charge the network(s) for terminating call charges.

Cheap telephone (phone) calls ahoy!

I’m thinking of taking a holiday sometime in August or September and it’s just deciding which books to buy… I’ll leave you to guess where I’m going (hopefully) by the book list: any comments on the choice of books or areas to visit would be appreciated 😉
